SMC is actively looking for a ICT Designer to execute telecommunications design for mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and other mission critical applications such as command-and-control centers. This candidate shall be capable of executing basic telecommunications design projects independently, taking established design criteria through generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and construction. The candidate shall also be capable as serving as a key contributor in part of a larger telecommunications design team on large and/or complex mission critical projects under the guidance of a senior engineer. The telecommunications design scope will be a part of a broader project and therefore this candidate should be capable of interfacing with design leads within SMC (mechanical, electrical, A/V) as well as externally including architectural, civil, structural, etc. The ideal candidate will be comfortable mentoring recent graduates and junior designers and engineers, reviewing the work of others, and collaborating with senior engineers to implement broad project goals. RESPONSIBILITIES This candidate will have the opportunity to execute telecommunications design of various project types while working and coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines, as well as serve as the daily lead on smaller projects. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to meet scheduled project deadlines. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Design telecommunications infrastructure for mission critical buildings and campuses including outside plant infrastructure, inside plant cabling, cable tray and conduit conveyance systems, telecommunications space layouts, telecommunications bonding network systems, rack elevations, wireless access point layouts, and communications for MEP controls/monitoring systems. Produce complete sets of construction drawings suitable for stamping and submission utilizing Autodesk Revit. Working knowledge of Telecommunications standards, including but not limited to TIA, BICSI, and UL. Coordinate with all disciplines for required telecommunication interfaces. Editing, and understanding of Division 27 Specifications. Coordinate power requirements with internal or external electrical engineers. Be capable of reviewing and understanding client standards, design criteria, applicable standards, and best practices in order to apply them to a design project. Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to clients for telecommunications design and all aspects of Division 27. Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications. Have experience with the use of Microsoft tools such as Word, Power Point, Excel, and Teams. Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables. Have the ability to travel when required to project sites (less than 10% travel). Have the ability to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken forms. Lead junior engineers, designers, and modelers, and coordinate the tasks of small project teams to execute delivery of specific design elements. Mentor and train junior engineers, designers and modelers to assist in developing telecommunications design knowledge base. Maintain excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. QUALIFICATIONS Education in an engineering or construction-related field, or equivalent hands-on experience. Minimum of 4 years of experience in telecommunications design, with a strong emphasis on Autodesk Revit for drawing development. Experience with MEP or telecommunications firms, consulting roles, or telecommunications construction will also be considered Minimum 2 years of experience with an MEP/Telecommunications consulting firm or specialty telecommunications consulting firm. Experience in telecommunications design for industrial and commercial buildings. Experience in telecommunications design for mission critical projects is a plus. Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists. Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud. Experience with design of security and/or audio-visual systems is not required but would be a plus. Job Description Summary- As a Revit Designer you will be leading the development of your discipline's construction documents. Your team will consist of a Drafter. They will depend on your direction based on their current understanding of discipline. Designers handle the creations and development of construction documents. Having a deeper understanding of your discipline will enable you to begin to take ownership of the content needed to complete your discipline's design. Essential functions - During design you will take ownership of developing the construction documents. You are expected to understand how to compose your design package. You will develop the project scope using calculations, specifications and following the scope of work. This would mean directing your Drafter to assist in composing necessary views based on your scope. Your discipline lead will assist you and mentor you on items needed to achieve a constructible package but the responsibility of fully developing the design package is reliant on your understanding of your discipline and design principles. In this position you will complete the following: Use of all pertinent specifications Research standards to identify any scope of gaps or areas of concern Develop scope specific details. Verify that the design meets all code and client specifications Annotate construction documents with scope enabling content and descriptions. Determine the composition of your discipline package. Develop calculations necessary for your scope to be reviewed by your discipline lead. Utilize software tools, where required, to perform analysis of the design performance Apply work break-down structure (WBS) for estimating. Coordinate with other designers to develop the overall scope. During this phase of a project, we will receive Request for Information (RFI) and Submittals (verification of items being purchased per spec). These are mainly the responsibilities of your Project Engineer based on the impact these items will have on construction. An incorrect RFI or submittal could exponentially affect a project and should be taken as seriously as design. For your development as a Designer, you will learn the following under this scope: The importance of an RFI and Submittal How to respond to RFI's and Submittals. How to perform site observations. How to perform design validation. Your main responsibilities during this are to: Revise the package based on RFI response.
