**Job Description**
Olsson offers its clients a full spectrum of water and wastewater services, including a complete line of planning, design, permitting, and construction phase services. Maintaining water quality is Olsson's number one concern, and we are able to respond to a broad set of client demands in a timely and cost-effective manner.
As a Design Associate on our Water/Wastewater team, you will utilize your diversified design experience to perform complex drafting assignments requiring the application of standardized techniques. You will recommend design techniques and minor design changes to ensure the best approach to solve engineering and design needs. You will be able to work well independently, and may direct efforts of less experienced staff.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Performs detailed design work on projects including preparation of drawings and layouts, reviewing project specifications, and performing design calculations.
+ Conducts research on various design concepts and techniques and develops approaches to enhance project design work.
+ Performs complex computer-aided design assignments and ensures designs align with project objectives and quality standards.
+ May review drawings, prepare project cost estimates, and attend client meetings.
+ Maintains project documentation including drawings, specifications, and project correspondence.
+ Assists in the preparation of environmental impacts or other project studies.
+ May supervise, coordinate, and review work for less experienced staff members.
+ May be required to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions and on project sites in various stages of construction.
Our diverse range of projects encompasses water/wastewater conveyance systems, including linear drafting and design using AutoCAD Civil 3D for pump stations, lift stations, sanitary sewer piping, water piping, water storage tanks, and water supply tanks. You may also be involved in water/wastewater treatment facility projects, utilizing Revit and other 3D modeling software.

A Brief Summary of This Position:
Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Design Drafter Intern position in the Global Utility Division. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be an active participant in contributing to the goals of the Drafting team, while learning best practices from some of the finest engineers in the world. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role and will be given exposure to other parts of the business, including subject matter experts from a wide variety of divisions and professions.

This position is targeted to start as soon as possible with the goal of continuing through the school year.
Essential Functions:
Determines changes, corrections and requirements to meet project demands
Makes sketches for use by other designers/drafters
Interpret specifications and standards and provide information to others to ensure that customer requirements are met or improved
Communicates with customers, both oral and written, to resolve specification questions in preparation of drawings
Provides assistance and input on project basis to other team members in development of shop drawings
Complies with Company's attendance policy
Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations
Performs other essential functions as directed
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
CAD skills including design applications and an ability to convert drawings to 3D models
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint applications
Demonstrates strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Demonstrates problem solving/critical thinking skills
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
Enrolled in accredited college or university and actively pursuing a degree in Drafting & Design

Job Description
Supports the department by studying engineering sketches, specifications and supporting documents.
Designing, detailing, documenting and verifying mechanical, subassemblies, assemblies or systems configurations; assigning less complex detailing work to drafters and providing technical assistance and mentors less experienced drafters.
Drawing 3-D models, depicting relationship of component and parts; identifying dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances and materials.
Prepares Bills of Material and specifications; creating documentation required and processing Engineering Change Orders; ensuring adherence to designated quality and cost parameters; using CAD systems.
Ensures quality of drawings and functionality of equipment by assisting in the building, acquiring of prototypes; testing and analyzing results; making various calculations, such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces and stresses, frequently using charts and tables.
Analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems; recommending possible solutions or alternate construction; modifying drawings as required; conferring with engineers to resolve issues; adhering to company policies and procedures.
Maintains equipment by following manufacturer's instruction and procedures.
Maintains technical knowledge by conferring with technical specialists and suppliers; attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
Requires use of computers, drafting and hand tools, measuring instruments; proficient using 3-D CAD design; proficient using complete Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), proficient with email system, Microsoft Outlook preferred; strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical / electrical / electronic equipment
Good organizational and planning skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions; self-motivated, ability to work under general supervision; close attention to detail
Clear and concise verbal and written communications; ability to coordinate others to accomplish objectives
Required Education/Experience:
Associates Degree or Technical School Training in ME, EE, Computer Aided Design Technology or related field
6-9 years designing and documenting mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment
Good organizational planning skills
Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Education/Experience:
Experience in related industry
Working knowledge in compression, power generation, or offshore oil and gas
Familiarity with any of the following tools: CADWorx Plant professional 2008, CADWorx Equipment, ISOGEN, PVELITE, PRO-E, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical, Oracle
