Associate process engineer job description

Under the supervision of the department manager, the Associate Process Engineer is responsible for:

+ Process Improvement & New Product Development - Conduct trials and experiments to develop new products and manufacturing processes. Analyze data, provide recommendations, and issue reports to plant technical management and corporate technical center on process improvements and new product and process development.

+ Specifications & Standards - Issue specifications and standards for assigned area of responsibility which may include incoming materials, component, assembled product, or curing process. Evaluate production data and laboratory test results, analyze production methods, and adjust specifications and standards to improve quality, productivity and reduce costs.

+ Technical Support - Monitor process specification compliance in assigned area and make recommendations to plant production management to improve quality, productivity, and costs. Evaluate non-conforming product or material and disposition in accordance with standards.

+ Special Assignments & Cross Functional Teams - Participate on cross functional team activities giving technical assistance and guidance to resolve chronic or acute production problems or attain significant process improvement. Utilize statistical analysis methods where appropriate to help determine root cause or key process input variables. Assist in presentations to management and teammates from corporate offices.

Associate Process Engineers maintain & establish plant specifications to meet requirements in quality, product performance, processability, productivity, standardization, and cost. The Associate Process Engineer will investigate issues with processes and finished products using data-driven problem-solving techniques to identify the root causes and develop countermeasures to remedy material or machine issues, reduce in-process waste and improve product quality.

OverviewCollege Graduate with a degree in Chemical Engineering and minimal experience working for heavy industrial or in the Oil & Gas Industry. This individual will interface with client engineering representatives and other discipline engineers within the Valdes organization. You must be able and willing to visit job sites as needed.
Responsibilities:Entry level knowledge within the Chemical Engineering discipline with the capabilities and the initiative to perform the work tasks with supervisory/mentor assistance Become familiar with basic PFD and P&ID symbiology, layout, and standards Learn to read and understand basic P&ID's along with the different stages of development Learn to check basic P&ID's modifications against CAD drafting standards and client standards Learn to develop demolition P&ID's based on project P&ID's and assist in P&ID walk-down efforts or field verification Learn general process department workflow and hierarchy of process documents in process designs Learn to develop/use heat and material balances, maintain a drawing list, develop an equipment list, develop a simple Line list with process data and recognize specialty items, and develop a specialty items list Become familiar with and learn to read piping isometric drawings and a plot plan Learn the basics of performing hydraulic calculations for compressible and incompressible fluids Learn the basics of pressure relief devices, types, sizing calculations, scenario development, and specifications Learn how to develop a process simulation and become familiar with thermodynamic property estimation packages Learn how to develop simple equipment data sheets Become familiar with industry codes and standards Interact with vendors regarding process equipment Learn how to develop physical property data for the selection of instrumentation including understanding typical instrumentation types and their principles of operation Learn to perform and document simple process calculations so they can be easily checked Become familiar with project budgets, schedules, typical project deliverables, and work scopes Learn to recognize out of scope work on projects, develop engineering judgment, and keep management properly informed on project issues Learn the requirements of collecting and maintaining process effort supporting documentation for calculations and project decisions made by the process engineer All other duties as assigned
Technical Competencies:Understand and able to apply basic fundamentals in Chemical Engineering (B.S.ChE Coursework): specifically fluid dynamics, chemistry, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, process unit operations and separations, basic reaction kinetics and reaction design theory, and material and energy balances Ability to think critically and logically while solving problems in a timely manner Good verbal and written communication skills Solid Microsoft Office skills
People Skills:Personable and able to work easily with others at all levels Comfortable working in a team environment Dependable and self-motivated with strong ethical principles Ability to receive direction from department manager and/or discipline lead and incorporate instruction into completing tasks Understands when to seek additional guidance from the department manager on project/process issues and/or discipline lead and when to research the solution on their own Comfortable approaching a mentor with technical or business related questions

Is the Associate Process Engineer role right for you?
This role aims for college graduates who have the desire to excel in today's fast-paced engineering environment. We will provide you with exposure to the various facets of engineering within a diverse Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) organization. Your technical skill set will be enhanced by providing you exposure to experienced professionals and various food production settings.

This role will allow for consistent growth and individual development opportunities. You will develop and define manufacturing processes that accommodate specific consumer and marketplace requirements for new products, while meeting process, quality, and cost objectives. You can also expect to:
Learn and apply the Methodology of Product/Process/Package Development (MOPD) Define the physical, chemical, and biological transformations that must occur to produce new food products Execute bench-top and pilot plant testing to develop prototypes and prove hypotheses Maintain accurate and complete records and distill them to Intellectual PropertyMonitor consumer trends and wants/needs within the food industry

You will complete your Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Food, or Biological Engineering or a related program of study no later than June 2023 (January start dates available for December grads) You have experience with process technology documentation You desire to be a leader and grow within the Research & Development function You have the flexibility to relocate You can travel up to 25%You have proven leadership abilities (i.e. collaboration, influencing & problem solving skills)
