This hire comes at a time when LSU AgCenter and LSU A&M are focusing on strengthening research in data science and precision agriculture and there are many opportunities for collaboration across the university, including the College of Agriculture, College of Science, and the LSU AgCenter's research stations. The position is open to all areas of biology, but the successful candidate is expected to build a research program around hypothesis-driven research that leverages data science to address problems at the intersection of plant pathology and large-scale data analysis. Desirable candidates are those who can actively develop cutting-edge data science methods in informatics, data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence, remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), statistics, large-scale data visualization, and image analysis. Potential areas of research are broad and include evolutionary biology of plant-pathogen interactions, epidemiology, ecology, statistical modeling, computational biology, genomics, structural biology, experimental design, quantitative genetics, or high-throughput phenotyping. The appointee will teach one undergraduate/introductory course in computational biology/data science each year, develop one advanced graduate-level course in an area of expertise to be taught every other year, and serve as a major advisor and on advisory committees for Ph.D. and M.S. students. Obtaining extramural funding from federal and state agencies, commodity (state and national) research boards, and agro-industries to support the research program will be expected. Qualification Requirements: A Ph.D. in plant pathology, plant biology, data science, computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, breeding, or related field accompanied by appropriate postdoctoral experience (ABD candidates will be considered). Candidates with a strong proficiency in computer programming and big data management are preferred. Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position Summary: The College of Western Idaho's Department of Biological Sciences invites an engaging and forward-thinking adjunct faculty ready to enrich the lives of a diverse student body by cultivating their academic potential and engaging their commitment to civic responsibility in a dynamic and challenging world. The department is seeking adjunct faculty to teach lab courses in Anatomy & Physiology during our Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Adjunct faculty members teach contracted classes in accordance with established policies and guidelines. To reach a broad range of students, CWI encourages exploring alternative teaching styles and methods. Courses will be taught in traditional classroom settings, in computer-mediated classrooms, and over the internet. This position includes classes taught in the evenings/weekends. Essential Functions: * Teaches contracted credit load of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the CWI catalog. * Utilize outcomes assessment measures. * Participate in instructional evaluation processes. * Meets all scheduled classes promptly with any deviations promptly and accurately communicated through the appropriate channels. * Monitors student placement in courses and student progress; maintains accurate records. * Demonstrates a professional level of preparedness during class time * Facilitate small groups of students working together on a common exercise * Demonstrates sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students. * Participate in professional training as necessary or required * Follow all standardized department procedures * Be aware of and function within College policies and procedures * Performs other duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications: * Master's degree in a related field of study, with a minimum of 12 graduate credits in the discipline. * Experience teaching secondary-level students in the field of study. * Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology. * Ability to demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development. * Proficiency in usage of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications. * Experience using instructional technology to aid in course delivery * Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff * MS/MA in Biology or related field, from a regionally accredited institution, preferred * Three years' experience teaching field of study at the post-secondary level, preferred * Successful experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners preferred * Experience using instructional technology preferred Additional Instructions for Applicants: * This position is for labs on Saturdays Successful candidates are required to reside in Idaho by the first day of work for the College of Western Idaho.
