Our scientists and engineers apply end-to-end co-design principles to advance future energy-efficient computing systems and design the next generation of algorithms to analyze, model, understand, and control the behavior of complex systems in science, energy, and national security. **Responsibilities** The Future Technology Computing group seeks a PhD intern for Spring 2026 with a strong background on High Performance Computing and Inference of Large Language Models (LLMs). Knowledge of protocols and technologies supporting Fabric Attached Memory (FAM) is preferred but not strictly required. The internship can be either remote or onsite based on the availability of the candidate. The candidate will be expected to use and familiarize themselves with world leading hardware design tools which are available at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The expected outcome involves high quality research work, represented by peer-reviewed publications. + Design efficient KV cache management for distributed LLM Inference on FAM-based platforms. + Develop hybrid parallelism strategies for LLM inference using low-level programming models and runtimes. + Participate in the develop and publication of a peer-reviewed publication to present the proposed techniques. The duration of the internship is flexible with a minimum of 3 months **Qualifications** Minimum Qualifications: + Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. + Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Teaching: The academic responsibilities of the faculty member include teaching in the classroom and advising students in undergraduate, professional, and graduate programs. The individual will work closely with existing faculty to develop and deliver an online Master's in Health Outcomes degree program. Scholarly activity: Scholarly activity, including grant-writing, presentations and publications, is expected and will be supported. The successful candidate will develop a sustainable independent research program with a focus relevant to Health Outcomes or related field(s). The candidate will join an active group of researchers at the pharmacy practice department with extensive research collaboration opportunities across the university campus and nearby health systems. The Institute is an interdisciplinary and public-spirited center at the University of Toledo dedicated to the principles, institutions, and texts that are foundational for America's constitutional order and for greater Western Civilization. We are an honors-level “school within a school” at UToledo, providing courses, degree programs, and public events that enhance the humanities offerings at the University of Toledo and serve the broader northwest Ohio community. The Institute's faculty are committed to building an academic community in which civic life and the life of the mind flourish. These scholars and teachers are dedicated to examining timeless questions while addressing timely problems in American civic life. Faculty will teach up to five courses per academic year. The appointments and tenure for all the Institute's faculty are held within the Institute. The Institute offers a minor in Constitutional Studies; a minor in Science, Technology, and Society (STS); and is developing a Constitutional Studies Major. Beginning in fall 2026, the Institute will offer multiple sections of CLT 2000: The American Constitutional Tradition. This course will serve as an entry to the Institute's academic programs; it also satisfies a civic education requirement for every undergraduate at the University of Toledo who enrolls during or after fall 2026. Ideal candidates will be prepared to teach sections of this course, which introduces students to key readings in the history of American political thought, American constitutionalism, early modern philosophy, and great speeches by American statesmen. Candidates should be familiar with and embrace the Institute's mission as defined by ORC Sec. 3364.07 (B), (C), which is to educate university students in (A) the core texts and great debates of Western civilization; (B) the principles, ideals, and institutions of the American and Ohio political order; and (C) the foundations of responsible leadership and informed citizenship.
