Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks general dentists as full-time clinical faculty for a new dental school in Joplin, Missouri. General dentists will serve as educators in the simulation laboratory and/or as group leaders for a team based comprehensive care clinical education program in the Oral Health Center. The general dentist will serve as faculty to oversee the provision of dental care provided by dental students. The College expects to serve patients across the lifespan in the four-state region, expanding access to dental care in this underserved rural area. Faculty must be motivated and engaged clinicians who are excited to help build an innovative and dynamic academic and clinical dental medicine program, educating the next generation of dentists while providing comprehensive care to a rural and diverse group of patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry and a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, fast-paced, academic environment
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning and discovery
The successful candidate is expected to be able to provide didactic and clinical education of pre-doctoral dental students in the simulation laboratory, in the Group Practice, and in community settings
The faculty member is expected to provide comprehensive general dental care when needed in the Oral Health Center
Candidates should be highly motivated to be part of the development and growth of a new dental school and willing to serve as academic coaches and role models for students when providing compassionate, ethical, and evidenced based care of patients
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must possess a D.D.S./D.M.D. degree or equivalent
The preferred candidate will be currently licensed in Missouri or have an active dental license in a US state or Canada and be eligible for licensure in Missouril or evidence of eligibility to receive an unrestricted Missouri dental license or faculty license.
Didactic and clinical instruction in general dentistry to pre-doctoral dental students within the simulation laboratory and group practice will be core responsibilities for this position
Preference given to candidates with prior teaching experience and advanced training in general or restorative dentistry
Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry, an enthusiasm for dental education, and a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, startup academic environment
A strong desire to improve the oral and overall health for patients in the region through collaboration with other primary care professionals is encouraged

Position begins on August 10, 2026, and will include undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching in our on-campus Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)-verified course sequence, advising, and supervision in collaboration with onsite BCBA supervisors. Specific courses will depend on areas of expertise and/or experience but may include behavior analysis courses, and/or other undergraduate courses as assigned (e.g., Research Methods I and II). Scholarly activity in the area of behavior analysis is desirable and service to the department, college, and university are required. The successful candidate will support both the M.S. Behavior Analysis and undergraduate B.A. and B.S. programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities will include behavior analysis graduate courses with the potential for psychology undergraduate courses (based on need and expertise)
Oversight of student theses and participation as a committee member
Mentorship and supervision of graduate students working towards BCBA certification
Additional expectations include mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, active involvement in professional organizations, service to the university, college and community, and commitment to student success
Other service duties may include participating in recruitment and retention efforts and providing support to other department efforts, as well as collaborating with the community to identify and support internship placements for students (related to behavior analysis)
Education and Experience

Earned Doctorate degree or ABD from a regionally accredited institution in Behavior Analysis or Psychology
Certification as a BCBA or BCBA-D
