TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties area a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
Organizes and instructs a specialized recreation class or program, developing specific program outcomes. Explains and demonstrates instructional techniques to participants. Ensures that participants are engaged and that the class abides by industry standards relative to the subject area. Motivates all class participants to accomplish the program or personal goals.
Prepares instructional materials and supplies. Sets up and cleans up room/area. Distributes, collects, inspects, and accounts for equipment. Demonstrates proper use of equipment.
Performs customer service duties to include professionally and politely communicating with participants, parents, and staff.
Enforces department rules and regulations and promotes and maintains order and discipline. Notifies supervisor or facility manager of all equipment needs and potential safety hazards.
Responsible for keeping accurate records, including incident reports, participation records and rosters, and time records.
Typical Qualifications
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), prior experience in the recreation field preferred; or, any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide specialized instruction. A minimum of three moths of experience instructing the specialized class/skill or three years of experience participating at a high level in the specialized skill/class is strongly preferred.

The Institute for Sustainable Practice seeks eligible scholars and practitioners to fill an adjunct teaching role for the Spring 2026 "Green Building Design, Construction, and Operation" graduate course (see example course topics in "Additional Comments").
The primary function of this position is to: (1) create unique graduate course content; (2) edit and customize current course content to the selected adjunct's teaching style, and (3) teach the stated graduate sustainability course for eight, evening lecture/assessment class meetings in March-May, 2026. A successful course evaluation outcome may lead to teaching this course annually and other graduate teaching opportunities.
Successful candidates must meet three expectations:
* Master Current Course Content: Adjuncts will review, learn, edit, and utilize all existing, published course content in the Canvas learning management system (LMS) and course reading materials. Approximately 90 percent of the course content may be provided by the Institute.
* Create and Customize Engaging Course Content Unique to the Adjunct's Discipline and Professional Experience and Aligned with the Course Learning Outcomes: The adjunct will develop and record unique course content, instructional aids, notices, reminders, and one local immersion experience.
* Instruct and Mentor Students: All adjunct professors in sustainability must be willing to lecture and engage graduate students in the following integrated teaching formats. These formats operate as a single, 8-week course experience and are integrated into each live lecture class meeting using classroom technology managed by the institute. Students may choose the format or a mix of formats that best support their learning needs and schedule, as long as they complete all course assessments by the posted deadlines. Format 1 is a live lecture by the adjunct where students attend in person in a classroom; Format 2 is the same live lecture that is simultaneously viewed on Zoom by students attending virtually online; Format 3 engages students who view recorded live lectures, and Format 4 is a hybrid student experience of some or all of the prior formats. Adjuncts create learning content and prepare live lectures as a routine in a graduate course. The institute provides online course templates, a learning management system (Canvas), and manages the "plug-and-play" class technology and lecture recordings.
Education:
Required: Training and experience in landscape architecture, building architecture, or engineering for green/sustainable building design, construction management and/or landscape and site design for industrial, commercial, or large residential scale developments. A master of science, master of architecture, masters of landscape architecture, master of business administration, OR a PhD in engineering, architecture, or J.D relevant to green building and sustainable sites is required. Additional green and sustainable building, sustainable sites, or relevant facility energy management certification is required (e.g., LEED GA/AP, Sustainable Sites, Certified Energy Manager, etc.)
Experience:
Required: Ten or more years of professional experience in green and sustainable building and site design, construction, and or maintenance, or private development policy or practice. A graduate degree in sustainability with an emphasis in green building and sites can substitute for a portion of the 10-year experience.
Preferred: Experience teaching, presenting, managing, and/or training practioners or graduate students. Experience teaching online, conducting relevant sustainability research, field work, consulting, and/or organizational or business management and experience related to green buildings and sites.
Qualifications:
In addition to the prior stated experience and education, candidates should have a strong desire to teach and mentor adult, graduate students and possess the basic curiosity and ability to possess or learn a variety of teaching methods, tools, and information technologies such as:

Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact for Federal Flight Deck Officers when they arrive at the training venue; are responsible for checking them in; verifying weapons and credentials; conducting training and overseeing the course of fire at the gun-range. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of all personnel on the range and securing SSI and SPII information during and after requalification sessions.
HOW A LEAD FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact at the training venue for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) and is the on-site training manager for the program. LFIs conduct all classroom instruction; delivering the approved TSA training and safety brief; introducing and describing new equipment; and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing. The LFI ensures a minimum number of SFIs are present to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session. The LFI must ensure a sufficient inventory of training supplies is on-hand at the training venue to support monthly requalification sessions. The LFI is expected to maintain positive control of the training environment from the moment students arrive at the venue to the moment they depart. Upon students? arrival; the LFIs must verify weapons and credentials of each FFDO before training commences by visual inspection. The LFI is responsible for ensuring proper scoring of targets; completion of applicable administrative forms; and collection of training data. The LFI is required sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify. Failure of an FFDO to qualify also means that an authorized FAMS Representative and/or LFI takes custody of the unloaded weapon; transport device (lockbox); credential and other equipment for return to TSA/FAMS. If no authorized FAMS representative is present to receive the equipment; the LFI shall make immediate verbal notification to the FFDO Program Office in order to make the appropriate arrangements to return equipment and credentials. The LFI must keep all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session in compliance with the TSA MD 2100.2; Privacy and Information Collection Policy and TSA MD 1400.3 TSA Information Security Policy. The LFI is oversees time keeping of all SFI labor hours. The LFI must comply with internal compliance training events
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
EDUCATION / EQUIVALENT TRAINING: Current or former federal law enforcement agent; officer; or civilian employee having completed a recognized federal firearm instructor training program deemed acceptable by the TSA/FAMS. Examples of a recognized federal firearms instructor programs include; but are not limited to; certified instructor graduates of FLETC Firearms Instructor Training program (FITP); FAMS Firearms Instructor Training Program; FBI/DEA Firearms Instructor Training Program; United States Postal Inspectors Firearms Instructor Training Program or equivalent federal training program. All LFIs must successfully complete a 2-3 days firearms re-qualification training program under the technical direction of the SAC; FAMS Training Division; and the FFDO Program Office. Areas of instruction shall include; but not to be limited to; the re-qualification course(s) of fire; procedural requirements for conducting the re-qualification session; and use of a GFE Automatic External Defibrillator (AED); and basic first aid.

UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Working Conditions The work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range. Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties. Exposure to high volumes of noise due to the firing of weapons will occur and employees are required to wear hearing protection in the form of foam ear plugs as well as external hearing protection. Exposure to expelled gun-powder as a result of fired ammunition is expected; and the employees must wash hands after handling ammunition. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials; boxes; or equipment. *This position requires applicants to successfully complete the security application and pass a background investigation clearance prior to starting.*

Franklin Road Academy is seeking a faculty fellow with a collaborative spirit and strong communication and interpersonal skills. The preferred candidate is a dynamic early-career educator to who will engage in a one-year fellowship. Fellows are typically only one to two years removed from their undergraduate work and possess a strong desire to impact the lives of students through teaching and engagement in co-curricular activities throughout the year. Each faculty fellow is considered a full-time faculty member throughout the year-long experience. All fellows are paired with a mentor teacher with whom they collaborate throughout the year, adding another instructor to the classroom and another mentor for our students.
Responsibilities:
Engage in regular and ongoing professional development throughout the year including, but not limited to, faculty meetings, department meetings, peer-to-peer observations, and seminars led by local university professors
Work under the direct guidance of the mentor teacher planning lessons and classroom activities, communicating with students and families, and providing students feedback on their work
Maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with their mentor teacher
Assume responsibility for teaching one to two classes after a period of observing the mentor teacher
Under the guidance of faculty coaches and sponsors, faculty fellows coach and mentor students in various after school programs in athletics, arts, community service, and enrichment each season of the school year
Assist in leading retreats, mission trips, and advisory groups
Other duties as assigned by the divisional head or mentor teacher
