We are primarily a teaching University and are looking for applicants with well-developed teaching skills. Faculty members teach a total of 21-24 credit hours per academic year. The successful applicant will be expected to teach applied courses that engage students in the Greater Cleveland community. This could be through a service learning course, internship course, or applied research course in the field. They would also be expected to teach any of our required courses, including Intro to Psychology, Statistics, SPSS, Research Methods and Thesis, in addition to a lower level topical seminar. They also may be asked to develop new courses in their area of specialization.
The Psychology Department currently has 7 full-time members representing the main sub-disciplines in the field. The Psychology major is one of the largest majors on campus, and the department is housed in the Neal Malicky Center for the Social Sciences, which has dedicated research space for human research. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and offers a program that leads to a B.S. in Chemistry, with optional concentrations in Biochemistry and Chemical Physics. The department currently includes four full-time tenured faculty, a research scholar in residence, a general chemistry lab coordinator, a half-time administrative assistant, a half-time laboratory technician, and a central stores manager who also serves as the chemical hygiene officer. A fifth tenured professor in chemistry currently serves as Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department graduates 10-20 majors each year, with approximately two-thirds engaging in research projects both on and off campus. Beginning in fall 2026, the Institute will offer multiple sections of CLT 2000: The American Constitutional Tradition. This course will serve as an entry to the Institute's academic programs; it also satisfies a civic education requirement for every undergraduate at the University of Toledo who enrolls during or after fall 2026.
Ideal candidates will be prepared to teach sections of this course, which introduces students to key readings in the history of American political thought, American constitutionalism, early modern philosophy, and great speeches by American statesmen.
Candidates should be familiar with and embrace the Institute's mission as defined by ORC Sec. 3364.07 (B), (C), which is to educate university students in (A) the core texts and great debates of Western civilization; (B) the principles, ideals, and institutions of the American and Ohio political order; and (C) the foundations of responsible leadership and informed citizenship.

Duties include teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with both face-to-face courses and web-based courses. These positions are on-campus.
