We're hiring a full-time Lead Instructor for our First Coast Technical Academy (FCTA) training center in Seattle, Washington!
JOB PURPOSE
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Lead Instructor of Technical Services to join our team in Seattle, Washington.
This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep, hands-on expertise in commercial HVAC/R systems, electrical infrastructure, and building automation/controls. This leader will be responsible for supervising a multi-faceted FCTA training center as well as teaching technicians and supporting their career growth.
First Coast Technical Academy training facility is located at a Boeing facility. It includes travel up to 25% to support regional teams, training centers, and field operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the daily operations and strategic direction of the technical training center, ensuring high-quality instruction and facility readiness.
Serve as a subject matter expert across multiple trades including HVAC/R, electrical systems, and controls
Conduct training of technicians, and trains and supervise a small cadre of support instructors
Support the growth of technical training staff through mentorship, coaching, and performance development initiatives.
Help develop and execute technical training programs, ensuring alignment with evolving technologies, safety standards, and operational goals
Facilitate advanced support and oversight for BAS/EMS systems, including digital/analog I/O, system integration, and programming logic.
Assist with complex diagnostics, commissioning, and system optimization in the field as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HVAC/R, electrical, and controls, including 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role.
Minimum 5 years of experience training technicians in technical skills related to their job requirements.
Deep knowledge of commercial HVACR systems, electrical distribution, and building automation platforms.
Proficiency in BAS/EMS systems, digital and analog I/O, and programming for HVAC and energy systems.
Must hold or have held a valid journeyman or trade license in HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical (Washington State or transferable).
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and influence technical strategy.
Experience designing or overseeing technical training programs is highly desirable.
Willingness to travel up to 25% to support field teams and training initiatives.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves face-to-face instruction and is performed in a classroom which is adequately heated and ventilated, and in an on-campus outdoor environment, sometimes in rainy conditions. This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,090 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days, in addition to a per credit stipend based on the high demand tier. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,640 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.

Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities
Launched in 2019, the FLP deploys a six-credit, two-semester Fundamentals of Lawyering (FL) course (3 credits per semester). FL provides first-year law students with a strong foundation in legal writing and analysis, research, citation, and problem-solving in a variety of lawyering contexts. The course curriculum is designed to assist with students' professional identity formation and introduces students to a range of lawyering skills including client interviewing and counseling, fact development, and negotiation. Each FL class will be supported by at least one teaching assistant, an upper-level student who will receive some formal programmatic training and work closely with their professor to assist with a range of tasks. In addition to teaching their courses, FL faculty are expected to serve as advisors in GW's award-winning Inns of Court program and to attend and facilitate Inns of Court Programming. FL faculty are also expected to attend departmental meetings and assist with problem development, creating research exercises, developing and sharing lesson plans and exercises, hiring teaching assistants, and other tasks related to the administration of the FL program. This three-year renewable appointment requires work during the summer months to develop problems and curricular innovations for the upcoming academic year.

General Summary:
Responsible for students' clinical progress and the achievement of clinical training milestones. The Clinic Director provides guidance, monitoring, and direct clinical supervision to their assigned students and promotes comprehensive patient care. Washington State University seeks a visionary leader for the position of Director of the Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service and as a faculty member in the School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs (PPPA) in the College of Arts and Sciences. The mission of the Foley Institute is to provide public affairs education, engage students in public service, and support academic research on public policy and democratic institutions. As the Director you are expected to interact with and serve the public, build connections with state and national institutions, and create and sustain pathways for students interested in pursuing public service careers.
You will be expected to strengthen your own disciplinary area while fostering collaboration and building connections across PPPA's multiple disciplines. As Director of the Foley Institute, the successful candidate will:

Promote internship and public service opportunities for WSU students
Foster a collaborative culture and environment in the Institute.
Administer and lead the delivery of the Institute's programs and the regular refresh and renewal of the Institute's activities
Champion the Institute to the university administration, other university units, and external stakeholders
Engage in fund-raising activities for the Institute.
Oversee the management of the Institute, with budgetary responsibilities for strategic, academic, and operational development

As a PPPA faculty member, the successful candidate will:

HOW A Secondary Firearms Instructor (SFI) WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
The Secondary Firearms Instructor (SFI) supports the Lead Firearms Instructor (LFI) during the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) Requalification Training sessions. The SFI assists the LFI as directed in the preparation; completion; and post session clean-up requirements of all FFDO Semi-annual Firearms Requalification sessions.
Ensures student safety during dry-fire and live-fire training venues.
The SFI provides one-on-one instruction to students during the pre-qualification (warm-up) course of fire; and any remedial training as designated by the LFI.
The SFI must possess the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate law enforcement training concepts and issues to a diverse audience; and must possess the demonstrated ability to instruct in accordance with the principles of basic adult education; as well as platform and practical area instruction for law enforcement.
The SFI must have the ability to interpret; apply; and adhere to established program policies; standard operating procedures (SOPs); and lesson plans.
The SFI keeps all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session in compliance with the TSA MD 2100.2; Privacy and Information Collection Policy and TSA MD 1400.3 TSA Information Security Policy.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Required Experience: SFIs must have a minimum of 5 years of formal experience as an instructor in ALL of the following law enforcement disciplines: firearms; defensive tactics/measures; and use of force.
The SFI must be a current or former certified law enforcement official or civilian employee having completed a military; state; county or municipally certified firearms training program.
Associates Degree; or the equivalent combination of education; technical certifications or training; or work/military experience.
The SFI must also comply with all Federal; state; and/or local requirements.
This position requires applicants to successfully complete the security application and pass a background investigation clearance prior to starting.*
Working Conditions The work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range. Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties. Exposure to high volumes of noise due to the firing of weapons will occur and employees are required to wear hearing protection in the form of foam ear plugs as well as external hearing protection. Exposure to expelled gun-powder as a result of fired ammunition is expected; and the employees must wash hands after handling ammunition. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials; boxes; or equipment.
