Position Summary The Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and closing fiber optic, structured cabling, FTTH, low-voltage, MDU, or service installation projects. This role oversees scheduling, resource allocation, crew direction, documentation, material readiness, and communication with customers and internal leadership. The Project Manager ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within scope, on budget, and in alignment with ProTec's quality standards. Project Managers are steady, organized, detail-oriented leaders who excel at communication, problem-solving, and field coordination. They directly support Team Leads and technicians while representing ProTec to clients and general contractors. 2. Essential Duties & Responsibilities A. Project Planning & Coordination Review project scope, drawings, and specifications prior to kickoff Create project schedules and assign crews based on skill level and readiness Coordinate with customers, GCs, and internal leadership on deliverables and timelines Prepare work packages, maps, SOW breakdowns, and installation instructions B. Crew Leadership & Field Oversight Direct and support Team Leads and field crews throughout project lifecycle Conduct job-site visits for QC, safety, and progress tracking Resolve field-level challenges and escalate issues when needed Ensure crews adhere to installation standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC) C. Material, Tools & Resource Management Verify material requirements and coordinate procurement Ensure crews have proper tools, equipment, PPE, and documentation Track tool inventories, rental equipment, and consumables D. Quality Control & Testing Oversight Review installation quality, labeling accuracy, routing, terminations, and craftsmanship Ensure OTDR and power meter test results meet customer and industry standards Approve final test packages, as-builts, and documentation deliverables E. Safety Management Enforce ProTec safety policies, OSHA standards, and job-site protocols Conduct safety walk-throughs and address hazards immediately Support Team Leads in maintaining safe and compliant work environments F. Budget, Labor & Project Financials Track labor hours, job costing, productivity rates, and project performance metrics Prevent overruns by adjusting manpower, schedule, or workflow as needed Approve timesheets, daily reports, material usage, and change requests G. Customer & Stakeholder Communication Provide clients with regular updates on progress, milestones, and issues Attend coordination meetings with GCs, ISPs, or client reps Address escalated customer concerns professionally and promptly H. Documentation & Reporting Submit daily or weekly updates to leadership as requested Maintain accurate project logs, schedules, change orders, RFIs, and job-site photos Ensure all deliverables are uploaded to internal systems Close out projects with complete documentation packages I. Crew Development Support Team Leads in training and evaluating technicians Identify skill gaps and recommend training or coaching Promote a culture of craftsmanship, safety, and accountability 3. Qualifications & Experience A. Required: 4+ years of experience in fiber, structured cabling, low-voltage, FTTH, MDU, or construction 1+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, risers, and specifications Strong knowledge of industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC) Demonstrated ability to manage multiple crews simultaneously Proficiency with documentation systems, tablets, and reporting tools Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally Must pass drug test and meet ProTec fitness-for-duty standards B. Preferred: Prior experience as a Project Manager or Senior Team Lead BICSI Installer II, Technician, or RCDD preferred OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification Experience managing subcontractors Experience with access control, CCTV, splicing, or MDU builds 5. Physical Requirements Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, and inspect elevated work areas Ability to work indoors or outdoors depending on site conditions Ability to lift up to 30 lbs intermittently (documents, tools, materials) 6.
