The Position: We are seeking a contract position as a Research & Development Technologist/Scientist to work in a team environment working on developing a new assay for our VITROS analyzer systems. You will perform various assignments related to the performance testing of the assay on the VITROS analyzer systems in the laboratory in accordance with cGMP regulations. This position may also include the preparation of complex biological solutions using established protocols, including reconstitution of calibrators and controls. These protocols may include weighing chemicals, volumetric additions of various biological components, pipetting, filtration, ultra-filtration, etc
Responsibilities:
As part of a technical team operates the VITROS analyzers to complete assay testing experiments aimed for the development of new VITROS in vitro diagnostic products or processes using established protocols and SOP's.
Provides technical support by carrying out experimental testing on diagnostic instruments and breadboards.
Maintains analyzer equipment related to the VITROS testing (daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance) and performs necessary calibration, QC, and documentation according to SOPs.
Maintains accurate records of work performed in accordance with cGMP and the procedures outlined in the Quality System. This includes Design History files, QC, equipment maintenance, and other associated testing documentation.
Performs calculations for chemical additions for various fluid formulations, such as interferent testing and sample spiking.
Maintains a neat, orderly, and safe workplace and cleans work area and analyzer upon testing completion.
Organizes and tracks reagent, calibrator, and control inventory in refrigerators and freezers.
Performs training on SOP's, protocols and other laboratory documentations.
Qualifications
A minimum of an Associate degree in Chemistry/Biology or related sciences field is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry/Biology, Medical Technology or related sciences field is preferred.
A minimum of 1 year experience in a lab environment is required. Basic understanding of laboratory skills and techniques (weighing, pipette use, volumetric measure, etc.) are required.
Familiarity with safe chemical and biological handling required.
Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel) along with excellent verbal and written communication skills will be required.
Good understanding of basic algebra, basic statistics, and basic laboratory data evaluation & interpretation preferred.
This position will be based in Rochester, NY.

* Plays a vital role in trial preparation including seed processing, packaging, shipping, protocol review, trial placement, and mapping/field design.
* Maintain field trial sites as week, insect, and disease free;
* Having a confident ability in identifying key weeds, insect, and disease problems is critical, as is timely and accurate implementation of control measures;
* With the use of handheld electronic equipment and Monsanto proprietary software, collect notes on various agronomic traits (e.g. emergence uniformity, flowering date, lodging, height, maturity, shattering resistance) in a timely manner throughout the growing season;
* Harvest plots and collect samples for quality and statistical analysis; ensure harvest data is evaluated and relinquished in accordance with crop advancement deadlines to aid in product advancement decisions;
* Develop, maintain, and implement the use of controlled SOP documents, QMS procedures, and investigative protocols;
* Comply with all Monsanto regulatory compliance guidelines for Confined Release and Stewarded Trial material;
* Collaborate with other Agronomic Research Specialists, Site Leads, and Principal Investigators in order to facilitate efficient trial planning and placement;

LLE is a unique national resource featuring the Omega laser facility, a premier high-energy laser user facility conducting experiments in Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF), High Energy Density Physics (HEDP) and basic science. The Omega facility is home to the OMEGA and OMEGA EP lasers. OMEGA is a 60-beam solid-state laser system capable of delivering 30-kJ, nanosecond UV pulses to a target for fusion experiments. Omega EP is a short-pulse laser system capable of delivering pulses of up to 1-PW power (700J in 700fs). LLE is also developing novel high-energy laser systems, including ultrabroadband and ultra-intense lasers. The Laser System Science team is charged with technical and operational oversight of the OMEGA and OMEGA EP lasers and also contributes to development of the next generation of high-energy and high-power laser systems, including the 25-Petawatt EP OPAL laser currently being designed under an NSF grant.

Summary
As a Development Chemist, you will be responsible for executing development assignments, determinations and tests under the supervision of the manager/supervisor or in assistance to a senior level Chemist, in order to contribute to the:

Additional Responsibilities

Education/Experience
This position requires at least a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or equivalent. * Conducts incident investigations to determine root cause. Assesses product impact.

The R&D Lab Technician will perform various tasks that support mixing process and mechanical testing, including testing that supports new Product Development, Consulting Services, Order Support, R&D Support, and Engineering Support. The technician must be able to take instructions in written form and create the test setups using existing facilities and equipment. In some cases, the technician will be asked to formulate a plan to create a new test setup, which includes developing a list of materials required to fabricate the test setup. The technician will often be asked to run the test and log data using existing computerized data acquisition software and supply a written report. Most testing will also include using lab testing equipment. Interpersonal skills, both within the R&D group and with external groups such as engineering and manufacturing, are a must. The ability to be able to perform machining of metal parts, welding of metal parts, and mechanical assembly is strongly desired.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
* Preparing test setups (including tank, tank internals, shaft, and mixing impellers) from both written and verbal instructions. For tests that use customer materials, work with the sales force to coordinate the shipping of these materials back and forth between the client and the lab.
* Running equipment and logging data using existing data acquisition software. The ability to perform basic calculations using Microsoft Excel is a requirement.
* Taking samples from mixing vessels and performing testing on samples using a variety of lab equipment (e.g., Viscometer, Moisture Analyzer, Particle Size Distribution Analyzer).
* Organizing the data collected during testing and providing a written report using Microsoft Word and/or Microsoft PowerPoint.
* Willingness to learn certain aspects of mixing theory and technology that can be applied to assigned test work.
* Knowledge of AutoDesk and Microsoft Office programs is required.
* 3D printing knowledge is desired.
* Testing of rotating equipment, including measuring temperature, vibration, and sound produced by said equipment. Training on wiring electric motors will be provided and is an essential duty.
* Maintain the lab's inventory of consumables, which includes ordering materials through purchasing.
* Acts as an interface between sales and marketing in supporting trade show displays. This includes cleaning and repairing displays and ordering items that may be needed to repair said displays.
* General housekeeping of lab facilities, which includes routine cleaning of lab equipment and test areas.
* Adherence to all safety regulations and protocols at SPXFLOW is required. Potentially act as the safety representative for R&D with our local Safety Coordinator.
