While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in both an office and plant environment. While in the plant, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. Special circumstances such as off shift and weekend work might occur on rare occasions.This position requires minimal travel. Potential for remote/hybrid work arrangement exists on a discretionary basis.

The Senior Research & Development Scientist develop novel polymer-based materials for thermal and EMI management solutions. This position requires background in chemistry, polymer science, or polymer composites, and a strong understanding of materials and structure-property relationships.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Use solid scientific principles to plan and conduct lab experiments, prepare samples, characterize materials and understand composition and property relationships.
Develop, formulate, and characterize new technically advanced materials per product development roadmap with minimal guidance.
Generate technical reports and project progress reports on a routine basis.
Interface directly with suppliers to identify and develop novel inputs to formulations to enable unique and robust material properties.
Actively participate on multi-disciplinary product development teams to drive material commercialization on an aggressive schedule.
Serve as product subject matter expert and interface with quality, engineering, sales and senior technologies to troubleshoot product issues after commercialization as needed.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in polymer science, materials science, or chemistry. PhD preferred.
5+ years' experience in polymer composites/materials development
Experience and knowledge with polymer structure, polymer chemistry, polymer composites, rheology control, instruments.
Experience in customer engagement and interaction.
Proven managerial expertise.
Chemistry, polymer and materials characterization techniques such as TGA, DSC, rheometer, FTIR, SEM, etc.
Hands on experience with formulating, polymer-filler system is preferred.
Experience with silicone and thermoplastics is a plus.
Experience with complex fluids, structure fluids is a plus.
Ability to work well in Team environment.

This role also provides processing and dairy troubleshooting and training support to all members of the Plant manufacturing team.
Responsibilities
+ Document and publish formulation changes surrounding cottage cheese and sour cream products and in-process streams.
+ Publish supporting compositional and textural target range and specification data.
+ Collaborate with R&D, QC, and Technical Services departments for formulation studies and reviews.
+ Calculate and publish expected nutritional declaration shifts correlating to each proposed formulation change or adjustment in raw material or in-process stream usage.
+ Maintain and enhance product formulation programs.
+ Validate unit operation performance and process change responses, ensuring the identity and functionality of product streams.
+ Plan and lead large-scale trials; work with processing and packaging operators to execute trial demands; prepare post-trial recaps and study while collaborating with QC and R&D departments.
+ Analyze samples from in-process and finished product streams to support process and product improvements, including procurement of trial sampling and studies, validations, and sales/marketing samples when needed.
+ Serve as a key technical resource for Plant operations, providing guidance and support to the Processing, QC, Packaging, Sanitation, and Maintenance departments.
+ Design, prepare, and execute benchtop trials aimed at solving and providing solutions for manufacturing, quality, and dairy science unknowns.
+ Determine key correlations and trends present in existing data collected from both the LIMS system and daily production logs to troubleshoot processes and develop solutions to irregularities.
+ Serve as liaison for the Plant's product gradings. Provide feedback and trends in product performance to the Plant team, Technical Services, and R&D.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ B.S. / M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Food Engineering, or a related engineering/science discipline.
+ 5+ years of industry experience in Food and Beverage, preferably with a background in dairy.
+ Certification in process capability (Six Sigma, etc.) is preferred.
Work Environment
Will be working in lab, pilot plant, and production plant. The job requires bending, lifting, and twisting, long periods of walking and standing, and working in a variety of manufacturing conditions which include noise that requires hearing protection and varying temperatures. Must be able to lift up to 50lb occasionally.
