Engineer/Architect 2/3 FLEX (PCN 250636)
Associate Software Engineer Job In Anchorage, AK
ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Design and Engineering Services is looking for a Engineer/Architect 2/3 Flex to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Base Salary Information: Engineer/Architect 2: $3,915.20 biweekly (OT Ineligible)
Engineer/Architect 3: $4488.00 biweekly (OT Ineligible)
What you will be doing:
This Project Manager position in the Central Region Aviation Design Group manages federally funded capital improvement projects for state-owned airports (and occasionally highways) throughout central and western Alaska. The position oversees the development and preliminary design of multiple capital improvement projects, coordinating efforts with in-house design staff, private architectural/engineering consultants, and various departmental and external agencies. This role also involves supervising professional engineering staff and providing mentorship in project management, design, and consultant contract management.
Our organization, mission, and culture:
Our mission is to "Keep Alaska Moving through Service and Infrastructure" as we vitally support Alaska's people and economy by serving and connecting communities throughout the state. To do this, we promote an organizational atmosphere of excellence, integrity, teamwork, and public service, and we take great pride in the essential transportation services we provide the public. Your role is critical to our mission. The Central Region Aviation Design Group is responsible for designing improvements for over 70 state-owned airports. Many of the communities we serve are isolated from the road system and depend heavily on local state airports for year-round supplies and transportation, including transportation for medical, school, mail, heating fuel, and other essential services. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the planning, design, and ultimate success of projects to reconstruct or improve these essential airports, as well as other airports that enhance the lives of communities throughout central and western Alaska.
The benefits of joining our team:
This position is an excellent platform to develop and orchestrate projects, work with numerous stakeholders, and do meaningful work that directly improves the safety and quality of life of the people of Alaska. The Department offers unique opportunities to collaborate with highly skilled professionals, and to further your growth and development as an engineer. Since training in aviation engineering, in particular, is not common in colleges and universities, most of our staff has learned this career field while working in our office. Consequently, you will find a friendly and collaborative environment in which to learn, or further develop, your aviation engineering and project management skills.
The working environment you can expect:
This position resides in the DOT&PF Central Region Headquarters building at 4111 Aviation Avenue, located on the shore of the beautiful Lake Hood Seaplane Base near Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska, and is easily accessible by a paved multi-use path and bus routes 40 and 65. Aviation Design is divided into individual cubicle office spaces where most of your work will be done. The standard work week is 40 hours with schedule options that allow additional days off. The Department also has a flexible telework policy to allow employees to perform their job duties at an alternate location. Travel is occasionally necessary, rarely overnight, and may include flying to remote communities in small single-engine aircraft.
Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:
* Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment toward completing assignments in a timely manner; work with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.
* Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
* Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
* Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring, and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
