POSITION OVERVIEW: The Veterinary Technician assists the Vet Tech Lead, Medical Practice Manager and the Operation Kindness Veterinarians with providing a high level of medical and medical-related care to ensure the health and well-being of all Operation Kindness animals.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Animal Medical Care
Ensures that all shelter animals receive proper veterinary care in a timely manner.
Takes all necessary precautions and follows shelter policies to ensure that animals are not unduly exposed to illness or injury.
Makes daily rounds of the cat and dog rooms to ensure that all animals are removed to isolation at the earliest sign of illness or distress.
Assist Operation Kindness Veterinarians in procedures as requested.
Promptly checks-in arriving animals (within 24 hours of arrival) according to shelter procedure.
Dispenses mediations and gives injections in accordance with shelter and veterinary guidelines and government regulations.
Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal exams, urinalyses, fungal cultures, heartworm checks; draws blood for laboratory analysis. Maintains file of lab test results and ensures that they are also added to patients' records.
Transports animals to and from off-site veterinarians.
Schedules spay and neuter surgeries.
Facilities and Supplies
Prepares, stocks, and maintains the treatment room, the isolation room, and the surgery rooms; cleans surgery room and equipment after each use.
Maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies. Properly stores all medications.
Records
Maintains timely, accurate, complete, and legible health records including spay and neuter surgeries.
Verify veterinarian visits for billing.
Clients
Provides clients with written medical records of procedures and vaccinations administered at Operation Kindness.
Counsels clients as needed on animal care, explaining dosages/purpose of medications being sent home and reinforcing home care follow-up treatments and care; ensures that conversations are on a level that is easily understood by non-veterinarians; makes client feels welcome in asking questions and having concerns about their pets.
Returns, on the same day, all phone calls from clients with medical-related concerns about their adopted animals.
General Responsibilities
Reports suspicion of animal abuse or neglect to any Manager or above immediately.

Our story began in 1953 with Dr. Jerry Fries, a legendary mixed animal practitioner who served his community with dedication-even making house calls by plane and motorcycle! What You'll Be Doing:
As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, you'll be a vital part of our clinical team. Key responsibilities include:
Triage, admit, and assist in treating patients
Support doctors in surgery and anesthesia monitoring
Perform dental cleanings and take digital radiographs
Collect and process lab samples (blood, urine, etc.)
Educate clients on treatments and at-home care
Communicate discharge instructions clearly and professionally
Help maintain hospital cleanliness and organization
Occasionally support front desk duties if needed
What We're Looking For:
Licensed Veterinary Technician or equivalent experience
1+ year of experience preferred
Comfortable with anesthesia and surgical prep
Able to restrain animals safely and lift large dogs
Skilled at multitasking in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities
As a Credentialed Veterinary Technician, your duties will include:
Assisting veterinarians during patient exams, treatments, and surgeries.
Administering medications, vaccinations, and therapeutic treatments.
Performing diagnostic tests, including radiography, bloodwork, and urinalysis.
Monitoring anesthesia and providing post-operative care.
Conducting dental cleanings and using digital dental radiography.
Educating clients on preventive care, treatment plans, and post-care instructions.
Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring a clean, organized clinic environment.

Qualifications
Experience: Certification or License (CVT or LVT) is required.
Skills: Strong diagnostic, technical, and communication abilities.
Mindset: A positive attitude, attention to detail, and a passion for patient care.
Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
