The UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) and UCLA Health is recruiting a full-time faculty Clinical Pathologist (assistant to full professor) with the skills and interest to develop a strong academic career focused in clinical pathology/laboratory medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise in hematology and coagulation to lead the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratory. The successful candidate must have an MD/DO (or equivalent) with board certification in Clinical Pathology. Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of California is required.
This individual will have a collaborative administrative and academic relationship with other faculty within the division of Laboratory Medicine, and will provide clinical consultations across UCLA Health, including high complexity in-patient care at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Santa Monica UCLA Hospital. Responsibilities will include provision of consultative services to physicians in hematology/coagulation consultation for patients with bleeding or thrombotic disorders, oversight of the SPEP/IFE Laboratory, education of physicians regarding test utilization and interpretation, and active engagement in quality assurance activities including those related to accreditation. As a team member of the Phlebotomy Float Pool, you will be assigned to assist various ambulatory sites, such as Ronald Reagan Hospital and Santa Monica Hospital.
Duties include:
* Perform phlebotomy on inpatients and outpatients for all ages
* Triage all lab samples and requests after verification of appropriate information
* Centrifuge, measure and aliquot and/or preserve
* Enter and verify patient and test info into computer
* Generate computer labels for specimens and deliver to appropriate areas
* Prepare samples for transport to referral labs or storage
* Prepare written reports to document phlebotomy draws, test results, test added, or deleted/rejected specimens
* Prepare batch or outside lab referral specimens' documentation
* Perform inventory count
* Assist in monitoring workflow and schedules
Shift hours include:
* 4:00am-12:30pm
* 12:30-9:00pm
* 8:30pm-5:00am
This is a per diem position and you may not necessarily be assigned to work the entire shift. Rather, you will be assigned to work based on operational needs with rotating weekends and holidays.

Clinical Research Assistant - Hematology/Oncology

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Clinical Research Assistant provides both administrative and clinical support for the laboratory. Responsibilities include preparing and managing daily laboratory resources, processing and shipping biological specimens with dry ice, obtaining
liquid nitrogen, preparing lab kits and supplies, and disposing of biohazard
materials. The role also involves maintaining confidential filing systems,
performing data entry, preparing correspondence, answering phone calls, and
handling faxing, photocopying, and scanning. Additional duties include updating
research charts and study logs, preparing investigational drug reports, and
obtaining study participant records from internal and external sources.
The Clinical Research Assistant also supports study operations by
transporting records and charts between clinic locations, assisting with
physician signatures, coordinating campus tours for sponsor representatives,
and reviewing research coordinator schedules. Other responsibilities include
assisting in tumor collection and freezing samples in liquid nitrogen, picking
up and returning oral medications for documentation, and managing lab manuals
and study materials. The position requires attending meetings as needed and
performing other duties in support of the lab's research and clinical
activities.
Salary Range: $23.12 - $27.20 Hourly

Qualifications

* Skilled in operating medical technology test equipment such as ECG, respiration, and temperature simulators; line isolation monitor testers; infusion pump analyzers; defibrillator and ESU testers.
* Ability to use standard hand tools and perform soldering and desoldering tasks.
* Able to read, interpret, and analyze electrical schematics, block diagrams, and technical test procedures for a wide range of medical devices.

At the level of IOM Technologist - Intra-Operative Specialist it is expected that the individual show self-direction and initiative with minimal supervision. The basic elements of EEG and EP acquisition already should be mastered. Artifact detection/elimination skills already should be mastered. Advanced techniques are mastered and applied independently at this level, such as intra-operative monitoring of complex procedures. The technologist should be able to describe EEG and EP findings to junior faculty in a review style format. IOM Technologists must be flexible enough to learn new and advanced protocols when needed. IOM Technologists should serve as resources for junior staff. They are also expected to take responsibility for certain specific aspects of laboratory organization and serve as the lead lab team member in those individual areas of responsibility. IOM Technologist - Intra-Operative Specialist will maintain registration credentials as a Certified Neurological Intra-operative Monitorist (CNIM). They are also expected to acquire continuing education units as recommended by the national accrediting body in the field, and keep up to date in changes and advances in the field.
A minimum of three years of experience in the related fields is required for the PRN EEG title. Those who do not meet those requirements will be considered for the EEG Technologist title.
