Job Description
Instructors teach students to understand the fundamentals, technical aspects, and concepts of the subject matter. More importantly they prepare students to utilize this understanding practically in the workforce. In addition to teaching proficiency in technical matters, instructors utilize case studies and real-life examples wherever possible to help students take their understanding from the pages of the textbook into the work of the real world. To accomplish this, instructors foster a collaborative, inclusive learning environment developed to support the success of all UCLA Extension students coming from a wide range of educational, personal, and professional backgrounds. We are looking for instructors who can primarily teach in-person in our Westwood or Downtown locations.
Instructor Duties:
* Develop and/or update course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director as assigned using approved syllabus template
* Prepare and deliver course materials and learning assessments in assigned format (in-person, online or hybrid)
* Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the course support platform for in-person courses and as the delivery platform for online and hybrid courses
* Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and clearly outline the grading policies for the course
* Evaluate student achievement of specific learning outcomes and assign grades
* Post final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner no later than 2 weeks after the last date of course meeting

Qualifications
* Minimum 4 years of experience as a BMET II or 9 years of total biomedical equipment experience.
* Proficient in using electronic test equipment, including electrical safety analyzers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, pressure/vacuum gauges, and polarity/tension testers.
* Skilled in operating medical technology test equipment such as ECG, respiration, and temperature simulators; line isolation monitor testers; infusion pump analyzers; defibrillator and ESU testers.
* Ability to use standard hand tools and perform soldering and desoldering tasks.
* Able to read, interpret, and analyze electrical schematics, block diagrams, and technical test procedures for a wide range of medical devices.
* Knowledge of analog and digital electronic circuitry, including digital pressure testing.
* Able to prepare clear and accurate technical reports.
* Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
* Ability to use a personal computer to manage work orders, documentation, and reporting.
* Strong oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clinical staff, hospital personnel, and vendors.
* Skilled in efficient troubleshooting techniques across various types of medical equipment.
* Ability to maintain cooperative, professional working relationships across departments and levels of the organization.
* Experience conducting incident evaluations involving medical devices.
* Knowledge of Critical Care environments and ability to respond quickly to service needs in ICU and high-acuity areas.

Position description
The UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) and UCLA Health is recruiting a full-time faculty Clinical Pathologist (assistant to full professor) with the skills and interest to develop a strong academic career focused in clinical pathology/laboratory medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise in hematology and coagulation to lead the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratory. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have experience in developing coagulation profiles and providing consultations in the diagnosis and management of patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders. Successful applicants will be expected to have a record of academic achievement through independent research and scholarly publications. The successful candidate must have an MD/DO (or equivalent) with board certification in Clinical Pathology. Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of California is required.
This individual will have a collaborative administrative and academic relationship with other faculty within the division of Laboratory Medicine, and will provide clinical consultations across UCLA Health, including high complexity in-patient care at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Santa Monica UCLA Hospital. Responsibilities will include provision of consultative services to physicians in hematology/coagulation consultation for patients with bleeding or thrombotic disorders, oversight of the SPEP/IFE Laboratory, education of physicians regarding test utilization and interpretation, and active engagement in quality assurance activities including those related to accreditation. Duties will also include active participation in the educational mission of the department including the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical school students. Creative contributions in clinical, educational or research projects is expected; UCLA offers a highly collaborative research environment that promotes interactions among faculty in the School of Medicine.
