Responsibilities
PERFORMS PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ALL FORMS OF RESPIRATORY THERAPY, NON-INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY, AND OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES UTILIZING APPLICABLE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.
Interprets and executes physician orders
Demonstrates the ability to individualize therapy to meet the patient's need
Demonstrates the ability to anticipate the patient needs
Demonstrates the ability to calculate medication dosages
Performs patient education
Performs all duties in an efficient and timely manner
Notify leader of respiratory care, nursing supervisor, or unit leader of any inappropriate patient care issues
Documents all medication and patient care errors
Uses protective equipment appropriately
Performs intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assigned
Practices good body mechanics, getting assistance as needed to protect patient and own safety
Remains alert and responsive to all alarms/call lights
Follows proper hand washing and infection control between patients and procedures
Performs testing in a manner that ensures accurate results.
Maintains a clean work area, checks and stocks supplies in their specific area.
Performs oxygen rounds
Responds to all pages and requests in a timely manner
Performs home care instructions and arrange for home oxygen, nebulizer, and/or suction equipment
Responds to emergency situations, RRT calls and codes immediately
Remains calm and effective in emergency and/or stressful situations
Ensures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety Goals
Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.
Performs patient bedside lab testing (ABGs) and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider's orders and hospital lab procedures/policies.
PERFORMS VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE
Maintains knowledgeable of all modes of ventilation and a weaning modalities
Responds promptly to urgent needs
Uses protective equipment appropriately
Participates in patient rounds with physicians if assigned
Performs ventilator checks every 2 hours and PRN
Sets appropriate ventilator alarms within recommended parameters
Educates students and other health professionals about ventilator functions
Documents ventilator settings and patient information accurately
Acts as patient advocate
Practices appropriate patient assessment skills to evaluate patient needs
Contacts physicians to improve patient care
Contacts physicians concerning ventilator settings
Collaborates with appropriate healthcare worker concerning patient care issues
Sets-up, verifies proper function, operates, and monitors ventilators, BIPAP and CPAP
MAINTAINS ACCURATE DOCUMENTATION AND ACCURATE COMPUTER ENTRY
Completes documentation of all therapy, ventilator, and oxygen
Completes documentation on all internal forms
Documents complete and accurate charge entry daily
Completes accurate information on all ECGs
Performs editing of ECGs accurately when assigned
Documents on all diagnostic tests
ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS/HER ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Learns the functions of all new equipment
Learns new procedures
Knowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures
Completes all mandatory education within the stated timeframe
Attends educational offerings to validate skills
Maintain current knowledge of all equipment

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $29.78per hour - $51.22per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Effectively evaluate the results of patient respiratory care delivered per care plans.
Accurately introduces, administers and charts the effects of routine respiratory therapy and medication administration.
Accurately setup, maintain, and chart the usage of oxygen therapy, aerosol/humidity therapy and ventilator therapy.
Provide ventilator support and airway management to neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric populations.
Perform arterial blood gas and capillary blood gas analysis (following Medical Director approval). Participates and performs blood gas quality controls per regulatory standards. Participates in blood gas proficiency studies.
May be trained in endotracheal intubation and arterial line insertion. May take a charge role.
Completes assessments on ventilator patients and all other patients on respiratory care services.
Will accurately chart on the respiratory flow sheets in the EMR and on the care plans. Will also charge accurately in the EMR.
Processes and maintains respiratory equipment.

The Work :
Evaluates and performs diagnostic, therapeutic and metabolic testing in accordance with physician orders and respiratory medical protocols
Performs or assists in procedures including but not limitedto endotracheal intubation, extubations, tracheostomy tube changes, bronchoscopy and capnography monitoring
Conducts patient assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions analysis and reporting of clinical response
Evaluates appropriateness of medical orders, transporting patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection and assuring safe operations of devices in Xray, CT and MRI
Maintains proficiency in the application of mechanical ventilation modalities, Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure
To be successful in this role, you will need to be able to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing, physicians and other team members. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills so you can build patient rapport easily.

Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care including Children's at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. It provides patients a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services as well as heart and vascular care. Memorial, offering medical and surgical services plus critical care, is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, Memorial Belleville recently was accredited by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Since 2008, it has been designated as a Magnet -recognized organization for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Memorial Hospital Shiloh, a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital was recognized with Magnet status in 2018 and provides emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services plus critical care.
The Respiratory Care Department provides inpatients and outpatients with high-quality therapeutic and testing services.

Role Purpose
Provides direct patient care activities related to respiratory care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation within the guidelines of the hospital and department. Can independently apply advanced clinical respiratory expertise and scientific knowledge including best practices serving as a resource to others as part of the patient care team. Ensures patient safety by providing care in an effective, developmentally and age appropriate manner while complying with all quality and regulatory requirements as well as quality improvement initiatives.

Effectively communicates by participating in the exchange of information including documentation, handoff and works collaboratively with the healthcare team.
Provides education and training about respiratory therapy treatments and procedures to others including patients, families, students, new employees and members of the healthcare team utilizing diversity and learning styles.
Holds self-accountable and seeks out opportunities for continuous learning and feedback and is able to perform multiple related duties, prioritizing and applying effective time management.
Performs various diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures according to established standards, procedures, guidelines and policies. Applies respiratory knowledge and clinical expertise, including the ability to assess, analyze and troubleshoot as needed.

The Transport RRT willprovide safe, timely, high-quality care during the transport of all neonatal and pediatric patients, and patients determined by the transport medical directors needing transported by the team.Perform all duties stated in Registered Respiratory Therapist-Critical Care job description listed above. Provide family-centered care to infants from birth to pediatric patients during inter-hospital transports. Initiate emergency protocols independently following ACLS, PALS, NRP, and STABLE guidelines. Practice in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and standards of the hospital; functions within the guidelines of the protocols and order sets for the transport program that are reviewed and agreed upon by medical directors. Communicates effectively with team members. This position functions as an expert resource for direct care throughout the system and supports all staffing levels. Responsibility for the delivery of Respiratory Care to all patients, to include all therapeutic treatments, oxygen therapy, arterial blood gas draws and analysis, ventilator management, airway management, and high risk deliveries and to include intubation with proper certification.
Requirements
Education: Associate degree required. Bachelors required to perform duties of a Technical Consultant.
Experience:Three years critical care in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and/or Neonatal Critical Care Unit, or three years Pediatric Emergency Department experience, 2000 hours in a level 2-3 NICU. Critical care transport experience preferred.
Certification:BLS required. Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as an ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) or NPS (Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist) as required by specialty. ACLS, PALS, NRP and STABLE required as appropriate to population served and/or specialty. Intubation certification required ; ATLS, C-NPT preferred (will be required within the first year of employment on the team)
License: Florida Registered Respiratory Therapist required.
Other: Completion of the Transport Team Training Program, completion of 20 hours transport course, as well as annual competencies or education provided as assigned. Computer Literacy. Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills at patient, family and team levels. Complete iSTAT training.

Comprised of over 400 Respiratory team members, our Respiratory Care team provide a wide range of specialized services to support patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions in the hospital setting. About this Position:
Our Registered Respiratory Therapists administer all therapeutic, diagnostic, and mechanical modalities under the purview of Respiratory Care Services, for which the Therapist has demonstrated appropriate proficiency, and has been documented as competent to perform these procedures. All of the criteria-based duties within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department and the hospital. Responsibility for the delivery of Respiratory Care to patients of all age groups, to include all therapeutic treatments, oxygen therapy, arterial blood gas draws and analysis, ventilator management, and airway management. May assess staff blood gas competencies if qualified as a "Technical Consultant".
Our Registered Respiratory Therapist Critical Care team membersare ACCS or NPS certified and function as an expert in critical care areas (pediatric, neonatal and adult critical care). They are utilized as a resource for less experienced staff. In order to qualify for a Registered Respiratory Therapist Critical Care position, you must have at least 2 years of critical care experience in addition to an Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) or Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification as appropriate to population served/specialty.
