Responsibilities
Preparation for surgeon specific operative/invasive procedure that's timely accurate, effective and efficient.
Ensures instruments, equipment and suture are appropriate, complete and functional.
Sets up sterile field and is scrubbed prior to induction.
Sets up case so that another can step in back table and mayo organized.
Has appropriate “have available” items.
Uses resources wisely, avoids unnecessary opening.
Motions are fluid and not redundant.
Sets up time for a variety of case types is within acceptable range.
Aware of and prepares for case needs, i.e. two mayos.
Collaborates with surgeon prior to case and adjusts as necessary
Precepts surg techs and RNs to prepare for surgeon specific procedures.
Scrubs on simple to complex procedures for a variety of specialties.
Able to “run mayo” independently.

The BJWC Surgery Center, located at 450 North New Ballas Rd, cares for ambulatory surgery patients undergoing otolaryngology and ophthalmology procedures. Serve as a circulating registered nurse supporting patients and ensuring patient safety and quality care.
Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers and PACU staff to provide seamless transitions from OR to recovery. Strong team player with excellent communication and collaborative skills needed.

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. Responsibilities
Educates patients and their families about the communication process during the procedure, what to expect, and any support resources, as appropriate. Serves as liaison between physician and the patient and family.
Demonstrates competence and independent practice in roles of scrubbing and/or circulating for all HSO-defined surgical services.
Uses established safety techniques in preparing for and assisting with surgical procedures; provides and sets up necessary instruments, supplies and equipment for different types of surgeries or procedures according to established safety requirements and preferences of physician.
Keeps patients safe from adverse events associated with surgery/procedure, including but not limited to: infection, burns, pressure ulcers, wrong site surgery, etc. Has knowledge of wound stage classifications. Observes patient during procedure to detect possible complications and/or breaks in sterile technique; furnishes emergency equipment and supplies to prevent adverse outcomes. Preserves and labels operative specimens for analysis.
