Our Day Shift hours are Monday-Thursday 5:00am- 3:30pm What You'll Do: * Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to. * Check production schedule or shop request list and plan work tasks. * Study blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, setup requirements, and check for errors. * Accurately measures, numbers, identifies dimensions, and reference points on material for fabrication or other work cells for further machining as necessary. * Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required. * Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures. * Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. * Inspect finished workpiece(s) to blueprints, quality standards, exact tolerances, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary. * Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data to process steel (some pieces weighing as much as 300 lbs). * Consults with engineers, production management, programmers, or others to resolve machining or programming problems. * Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to like-new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures. * Assist with directing work activities of any support staff as necessary (forklift operator, CNC machine trainees, and/or material handlers). * Miscellaneous other duties as directed by Shift Lead or Supervisor. Your main tasks and responsibilities: * Performs layouts, sets up, and operates conventional machine tools as required Reads and interprets all drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing * Designs setups and methods where none exist * Instructs other shop personnel in proper machining techniques: set-ups, feeds and speeds for both carbide and high-speed steel cutting tools, methods and standard operating procedures * Improves methods for higher quality and improved costs * Assist maintenance in diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance * Operate jib cranes and forklifts as directed by Supervisor/Area Supervisor * Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide safety program which includes following all safety policies and procedures * Supports and cooperates in company-wide quality management effort * Performs other duties as necessary To succeed in this role, you will need: * High school graduate or equivalent * Completion of a machinist apprentice program or equivalent training * Ability to hold close tolerances and conduct component inspections * Demonstrated ability to effectively set up all, or at least most, of the following machines: I.D./O.D. grinder, turret lathe, engine lathe, knee mill, radial drill, horizontal boring mill, vertical boring mill, and planer mill * Ability to perform with a minimum of direct supervision * Working knowledge of tool geometry and application * Working knowledge of effects of feeds and speeds * 4 years experience in machine shops on the above equipment * Willingness to work in a team environment * Ability to work overtime as required What we offer you: * Paid time off and 12 company-paid holidays, plus paid time off to volunteer * 401(k) plan with a 6% company match * Comprehensive benefits program, including, medical, dental, vision, life, and short-term and long-term disability * Motivating wellness program * Employee assistance program * Service awards at 5 years * Paid paternal leave * Gym reimbursement * Health savings account with employer matching No visa or work permit support can be provided for this role.
