The Field Application Scientist (FAS) will work with Sales Representatives to achieve instrument sales goals by applying scientific knowledge of UV/VIS/NIR and Fluorescence technologies. These instruments are used across a diverse range of markets, including Engineered Materials, Optics, and Pharmaceuticals.
Location: This position will be REMOTE but candidate must reside near the Shelton, Connecticut area for meetings on occasion.
This FAS position is the key applications support person for the Northeastern United States, providing:
Customer demonstrations, analyze samples, generate professional reports, and present results and solutions which best address customers' challenges
Assembling and delivering technical product presentations (to individual prospects and seminar/tradeshow audiences) in poster or oral technical sessions
Training and applications implementation
Ongoing feedback to Product Line Leaders and Product Managers on emerging applications, trends, performance and competitive landscape
Developing application notes based on market needs
Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
This role will travel up to 50% throughout the year
Basic Requirements:
Master's with 5+ years of post-academic experience
3+ years' hands-on experience with advanced optical spectroscopic characterization techniques, including variable-angle reflection and transmission-type measurements within the UV-Vis-NIR spectral ranges
3+ years' experience with Shimadzu 3600 or 3700, Agilent Cary 5000 or 6000, or PerkinElmer Lambda 650, 750, 850, 950, or 1050.
Remote but must reside in driving distance from Shelton, CT for occasional meetings.
Preferred Requirements:
PHD in relevant discipline.
A strong mix of scientific expertise and excellent communication skills is required.
Strong technical communication skills (written and spoken)
Applicant must have working knowledge of optical measurements on materials utilizing UV/VIS/NIR and Fluorescence technologies
Familiarity with polarized optical measurements
Experience with UV/Vis/NIR measurement techniques for optics, including filters, lenses, mirrors, and coatings.

Responsibilities:
Assist customers in designing and conducting experiments to effectively utilize the PacBio products in their laboratory.
Work with Technical Support team to provide timely technical and application assistance in response to customer inquiries.
Work with Account Managers to identify business opportunities, understand customer research needs, and position appropriate PacBio products and solutions.
Assist Sales team in conducting scientific presentations to internal and external audiences for pre- and post-sales activities.
Work with Market Development team to define/develop models for competitive positioning PacBio technologies.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and key opinion leaders in assigned territory

Position Requirements:
Normally requires a minimum of a PhD and 0-2 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience. Alternatively, a minimum of a Master's with 3-5 years of related experience, or a minimum of a Bachelor's with 5-7 years of related experience.
A degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or have equivalent experience.
Experience in operating next-generation DNA sequencing instruments and assays.
Experienced in molecular biology/molecular genetics, and biochemistry laboratory techniques.
Knowledge of some common DNA sequence analysis tools and workflows such as sequence alignment, genome visualization, comparative genomics, sequence/structural variation discovery, and epigenetics.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Excellent oral presentation skills.
Experienced in conducting scientific presentations to internal and external audiences for pre- and post-sales activities.
Familiarity with the scientific publication process and associated experimental design requirements

The role reports into the Senior Director, Field Applications and Enablement. This person will work closely with sales, product management, market development, and marketing.
As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:
Conduct customer pre-sales meetings, seminars, and demos.
Understand and communicate technical details of QSI's product line and applications.
Identify customer needs and/or problems, and understand how to partner with internal colleagues to knowledgeably provide solutions using QSI's reagents, kits, and assay product placement.
Independently or in partnership present technical seminars remotely or in-person.

Location and Travel Expectations:

Qualifications
Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:
4-year bachelor's degree in life sciences, biology, or related field.

Prior employment in similar technical support roles required OR combination of lab experience with technical support component.

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $90,000 - $125,000. Job Summary IPAC, part of the Physics, Math, and Astronomy Division at Caltech, provides science operations, user support, data and archive services, and scientific vision to enhance discovery with observatories both in space and on the ground.
IPAC invites applications from highly qualified individuals for a full-time position at the junior scientist level to work with the Roman team at IPAC.
The Roman Space Telescope is a NASA observatory designed to address key questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.
It is slated for launch in late 2026.
The Roman Science Support Center (SSC) at IPAC is part of the Roman Ground Data System, providing algorithm and software development and data processing for the Galactic Bulge Time Domain Survey and all Roman spectroscopic data.
In addition, the SSC will support the operations of the Coronagraph Instrument, manage the Roman General Investigator Program proposal solicitations and related data analysis funding, and provide community support for exoplanet and wide-field spectroscopy science with Roman.

Performs bioinformatics analyses for functional genomic projects of complex retinal diseases as directed, with supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Performs a variety of computational and statistical analyses of functional genomic data of eye tissues, including bulk tissue and single cell RNA-sequencing and genotyping data.
* Use existing deconvolution tools to estimate the cell type abundance in bulk tissue RNA-seq from multiple human retinal samples
* Apply linear regression models to detect cell type-specific genetic regulation of gene expression (eQTLs) and of splicing (sQTLs) in eye tissues.
