Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling company history timeline

1909

Harry Tyler got his start in business in February, 1909 at Villisca, manufacturing Tyler's Ice Cream.

1916

Tyler engaged exclusively in the ice cream and ice business until purchasing the Clarinda Bottling Co. in 1916.

1923

In 1923 Royal sold his interest to Harry and Henry, who continued expanding the business by purchasing four additional bottling companies in Shenandoah, Atlantic, Creston, Iowa and Grand Island, Nebraska.

1929

In 1929 they acquired the franchise rights for Atlantic to bottle and distribute Coca-Cola.

1930

In 1930 Tyler Co. purchased the Creston Bottling Co., and sold the ice cream portion of the business to Beatrice Foods.

1940

In 1940 the business relocated to a new and larger plant on East Second, which was later expanded.

1949

In 1949 the Tyler Bros. divided their rapidly expanding business.

In 1949, Harry and Henry divided their business by drawing straws.

1958

Harry’s son Jim was managing the company by 1958, serving customers in a 60-mile radius of Atlantic with Coca-Cola, 7-Up and Tyler’s Flavors products.

1975

On April 1, 1975, Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling purchased the Des Moines area Coca-Cola franchise, and burgeoned the brand’s presence and popularity.

1980

1991

In 1991 Kirk Tyler was named President of Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and Jim became Chairman of the Board of Directors.

2016

On September 30, 2016, Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company announced that it closed a transaction with The Coca-Cola Company for expanded territory distribution rights.
