The Role: Director of Data Center Construction
As a Director of Data Center Construction at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.
In this role, you will manage all regional construction teams and processes for the department. This includes coordinating scheduled, budgets, and resources. Communicate as needed directly with ConstructionManagers, Technical Program Managers, Program Managers, contractors, designers, and department leadership concerning project cost, staffing, and scheduling. This position will report directly to the VP of Construction.
What You ll Do
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations on construction sites. Implement safety training programs, conduct safety audits, and ensure that all construction activities are performed in accordance with applicable safety standards.
Lead the development of comprehensive project plans for construction projects, including defining project scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements.
Manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective utilization of resources throughout the construction process. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize project expenditures.
Negotiate contracts with construction vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers. Ensure that contracts are structured to align with project requirements, timelines, and budget constraints.
Provide leadership and guidance to project teams, including project managers, engineers, architects, and construction workers. Foster a collaborative work environment and promote teamwork to achieve project goals.
Implement quality control measures to ensure that construction activities meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational quality guidelines. Conduct regular inspections and audits to monitor project progress and address any deviations from quality standards.
Identify potential risks and challenges associated with data center construction projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and delays. Proactively address issues as they arise to ensure timely project delivery.
Maintain regular communication with project stakeholders, including senior management, clients, Data Center Operations, regulatory agencies, and community representatives. Provide project updates, address concerns, and solicit feedback to ensure alignment with project objectives and expectations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance construction processes, methodologies, and best practices. Leverage industry trends and emerging technologies to optimize project delivery and drive operational efficiency.

What You ll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Engineering ConstructionManagement or a related field is desired, a combination of education and work experience will also be considered in lieu of degree.
5-7+ years of experience in construction field as a Construction Director, Sr Project Manager, or Project Executive
Work experience in all disciplines of construction (civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing), preferred.
Intermediate knowledge of Procore software.
Knowledge of CAD or CAD 3-D is desired.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or automation engineering, and two years related technical project management experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience. PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred.
Language Ability:
Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the group of managers, clients, and the customers.
Math Ability:

Job Description:
The Assistant ConstructionManager (ACM) is the Company's "management representative" and is responsible for the safe completion of his\/her projects within budget, on schedule, to the company's quality standards, and to the customer's satisfaction. It is his or her responsibility to initiate required action to achieve these objectives and to ensure all project activities are consistent with contract documents and the Company's policies. The ACM's duties will vary as required to support the project team.
Essential Duties:
Responsibility to ensure safety is properly incorporated into job planning and execution; promote accountability among staff members and subcontractors as it relates to the project safety policies; and enforce these policies by actively participating in all safety\-related functions.
Pre\-job Planning and Mobilization.
Purchasing Responsibility.
Scheduling.
Customer\/Owner Relations \- Regularly visit with the customer and Architect\/Engineer and probe for problems which may not be obvious to jobsite personnel. Maintain open communications.
Submittals - Ensure Project Coordinators have the knowledge, ability and workload to properly review and process submittals in a timely manner. This includes having a Submittal Transmittal and Delivery Log to accurately track the submittals.
Expediting of vendors and subcontractors.
Progress Payments from Owner and to Subcontractors.
Change Orders and Change Estimates.
Cost Reports \- Weekly and monthly review of job cost reports and preparation of monthly analysis.
Carefully analyze cost and schedule problems and initiate alternatives which will cause a course correction.
Quality Control and Commissioning \- Ensure the Quality Control Plan is set up for the project; set the tone for enforcing the quality standards for the project by attending and participating in the buyout and pre\-mobilization meetings; and be alert to a deviation from our quality standards and ensure proper corrective action is initiated. Also implement the Commissioning Manual to ensure a properly function building.
Personnel evaluation, development, and retention.
Recruiting of salaried personnel.
Remain current with industry best practices and new technology.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Regional ConstructionManager or as required by the project team.

They are building an enormous data center for Meta and all of these candidates must come from Low Voltage backgrounds.
Please remember candidates must have experience in a commercial setting in larger builds. Candidates that have installed alarms systems or did some basic cabling at a condo\/large apartment complex as an example is not going to be a good fit.
We should see experience with things such as Finance, scheduling, more like office roles, reporting, and logistics.
Degree in ConstructionManagement, Engineering, or Business preferred.
Professional accreditations desirable.
7\-10+ years' experience in construction related field required.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Excellent working knowledge of construction methods, facilities operations and building systems.
Familiarity with strategic planning.

The Role

The primary function of this position is to oversee multiple projects (tower inspections and maintenance, tower decommission, tower drop and swap, and Edge new-build) for the entire lifecycle (inception to closeout). The Role: Director of Data Center Construction
As a Director of Data Center Construction at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine whats possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.
In this role, you will manage all regional construction teams and processes for the department. This includes coordinating scheduled, budgets, and resources. Communicate as needed directly with ConstructionManagers, Technical Program Managers, Program Managers, contractors, designers, and department leadership concerning project cost, staffing, and scheduling. This position will report directly to the VP of Construction.
What Youll Do
* Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations on construction sites. Implement safety training programs, conduct safety audits, and ensure that all construction activities are performed in accordance with applicable safety standards.
* Lead the development of comprehensive project plans for construction projects, including defining project scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements.
* Manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective utilization of resources throughout the construction process. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize project expenditures.
* Negotiate contracts with construction vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers. Ensure that contracts are structured to align with project requirements, timelines, and budget constraints.
* Provide leadership and guidance to project teams, including project managers, engineers, architects, and construction workers. Foster a collaborative work environment and promote teamwork to achieve project goals.
* Implement quality control measures to ensure that construction activities meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational quality guidelines. Conduct regular inspections and audits to monitor project progress and address any deviations from quality standards.
* Identify potential risks and challenges associated with data center construction projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and delays. Proactively address issues as they arise to ensure timely project delivery.
* Maintain regular communication with project stakeholders, including senior management, clients, Data Center Operations, regulatory agencies, and community representatives. Provide project updates, address concerns, and solicit feedback to ensure alignment with project objectives and expectations.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance construction processes, methodologies, and best practices. Leverage industry trends and emerging technologies to optimize project delivery and drive operational efficiency.

What Youll Bring
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering ConstructionManagement or a related field is desired, a combination of education and work experience will also be considered in lieu of degree.
* 5-7+ years of experience in construction field as a Construction Director, Sr Project Manager, or Project Executive
* Work experience in all disciplines of construction (civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing), preferred.
* Intermediate knowledge of Procore software.
* Knowledge of CAD or CAD 3-D is desired.
* Ability to influence and partner with executive leadership to drive strategy and execution.
* Analyzes and resolves construction process problems and issues and effectively communicates and interfaces with all levels of personnel.
* Demonstrates consistent ability to be dependable, consistent, diligent, and thorough. Exercises creativity and resourcefulness in completing tasks accurately in a compressed timeframe.
* Represents the company with a positive attitude internally and externally.
* Acts in a professional manner at all times and works cohesively with all team members to maintain a harmonious work environment.
