AtlanticLIVE is launched to deliver best-in-class thought leadership events 1999

Atlantic Media Strategies is launched, dedicated to helping clients reach the influential in surround sound 2011

2014

Quartz India is launched to provide rigorous and accessible journalism as the country enters its next phase May 2014

2015

The Atlantic launches Politics & Policy: Expands coverage and events, triples reporting team June 2015

The Atlantic takes top honors at National Magazine Awards; winning Magazine of the Year December 2015

In 2015 Coates was named a MacArthur fellow.

The critically acclaimed work was followed by Between the World and Me (2015), which became a best seller.

2016

The first installment was published in 2016.

2017

In 2017 it was announced that the Emerson Collective was acquiring a majority stake in the publication; the organization, which largely focused on immigration and education reform, was founded and headed by Laurene Powell Jobs, a noted philanthropist and the widow of Steve Jobs.

2019

In 2019 Coates released his first novel, The Water Dancer.

2021

In addition, Coates served on the faculty at several schools, notably joining Howard University in 2021.
