Position Overview and Responsibilities:
Resource Management Equipment Operation & Maintenance Technician (37970050)
An opportunity is available for a self-motivated, hardworking individual to fill a position focused on resource management, equipment maintenance and operation, and may include exotic animal and plant control, fire line prep, and prescribed fire at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.
This position will be needed for 40 hours a week working a rotating shift, including weekends and holidays, providing Resource Management, Administration, Maintenance, and Park Protection duties.
The primary function of this position is to provide excellent customer service as the first point of contact upon entering Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. This position will also be used throughout the park to assist in day-to-day operations as needed as well as being involved in helping the park be successful in resource management goals. Responsible for greeting visitors at the park entrance and providing information pertaining to the park and surrounding areas, as well as any current and upcoming park activities and events; Collect fees for park entrance and annual passes; Operate a point-of-sale cash register; accurately collect, record, and reconcile revenue collected; Maintain an organized workspace; Answer phones and operate two-way radio communication system; Assist with completing various reports; Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations; Cleans facilities, restrooms, grounds, parking areas and equipment.
Work to be performed but not limited to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, Price's Scrub State Park, and Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail.

Far from the Far West, herds of wild horses and bison roam the prairie in this surprisingly diverse preserve south of Gainesville. Paynes Prairie is unique in many ways. Nowhere else in Florida can visitors experience wild-roaming bison and horses. Nearly 300 species of birds also frequent the park along with alligators, deer and many other animals.
The park's eight trails, including the 16-mile paved Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail, allow one to explore the park's interior and observe wildlife, while a 50-foot high observation tower provides for panoramic views. Far from the Far West, herds of wild horses and bison roam the prairie in this surprisingly diverse preserve south of Gainesville. Paynes Prairie is unique in many ways.
