Responsibilities:

This associate will be responsible for all aspects of clients’ cases including:

• Conducting initial consultations and devising strategies
• Delegating work to case managers and legal assistants and monitoring their work
• Assessing probate strategies and managing probate cases and hearings
• Advising on entity formation and business contracts
• Leading and participating in final meetings with clients
• Drafting, drafting, and drafting
• Assist with marketing by networking, writing articles, and conducting speaking engagements
• Must use Oxford Comma and pay great attention to detail in the spelling of names of team members and clients

Job Responsibilities

Assist supervising attorney in management of family law cases

Strategize, prepare for, and attend trial proceedings, mediation, and arbitration

Attend court hearings on behalf of clients and argue motions

Prepare letters, pleadings, declarations, lodgments, attachments to subpoenas, financial disclosures, mediation, and trial briefs

Propound and respond to discovery, prepare meet and confer letters, and prepare motions to compel

Prepare deposition outlines and exhibits

Prepare witness questions for evidentiary hearings and trial

Conduct legal research and prepare memorandums

Track billable time

Qualifications

Must be admitted to and in good standing with the California bar

Have a minimum of 7 years of family law attorney experience

2 5 years of experience taking responsibility for client matters

Experience drafting discovery, motions, and legal documents

Experience participating in settlement negotiations and mediations

Strong analytical skills and oral and written communication skills

Attention to detail and accurate work product

Highly motivated professional, serving our clients is our passion

Salary is DOE starting at $150k. Small book of businesses are preferred. Onsite in Downtown San Diego.

We are a family law firm with 6 locations in North and South Carolina. We are currently looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented Family Law Attorney to join our team in the Lowcountry, where our founder is from originally.

Preferably you will have at least three to five years of experience practicing family law in South Carolina and you will also have some experience with managing and overseeing paralegals and other support staff.

Compensation:

Responsibilities:

• Help effectively solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action
• Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, handle the division of marital assets, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
• Attend court proceedings as needed to ensure effective representation for clients
• Collaborate with senior partners, multiple attorneys, and paralegals both in-person and virtual to effectively move files through the civil litigation process
• Consult with potential clients to ascertain their needs and decide on the next steps
• Engage in matter management to ensure all cases move forward in a timely manner
• Set boundaries for clients when needed to ensure the firm is profitable and our attorneys protected from potential liability
• Confirm all work from the Firm is consistent and quality-reviewed for case law and written content/clarity

Qualifications:

• License to practice law in South Carolina
• 3+ years experience working in a law firm on family law issues, with sufficient experience to work independently on certain cases and retain new clients
• An undergraduate degree with a legal background and Juris Doctor degree required
• Experience with billing and keeping track of billable time on cases
• Great negotiation and communication skills, particularly in stressful and emotional situations
• Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case
• Team-oriented, flexible, organized, and willing to work across office locations when needed is a plus
• Self-starter who will take the proactive initiative to complete priorities on a daily basis
• Ability to creatively problem-solve and come up with workable solutions, figure things out on your own
• Must be willing to travel locally within Charleston and the surrounding area for mediations, depositions, and court
