1962

Started up in 1962, Audio-Technica is a group of innovative thinkers in the audio industry, dedicated to designing, manufacturing, promoting, and re-defining revolutionary sound hardware.

In 1962, Matsushita founded Audio-Technica with the vision of producing high-quality audio for everyone.

1965

The headquarters and factory moved in 1965 to the current address in Naruse, Machida, Tokyo.

1969

In 1969, the company began exporting phono cartridges worldwide and launched the first microcassette recorders.

1972

In 1972, Audio-Technica established its US arm in Fairlawn, Ohio, and started shipping VM phono cartridges to European manufacturers.

1974

In 1974, the company developed its first headphones, the AT-700 series, launched the same year.

1978

The AT-800 series of microphones were introduced in 1978 and in the same year the UK establishment in Leeds began operation.

1984

In 1984, Audio-Technica introduced the ASM50 Nigirikko, a nigiri-forming appliance for home kitchens.

1988

1988 - Audio-Technica Taiwan Co., Ltd., is established.

In 1988, another Audio-Technica subsidiary is founded in Taiwan.

1991

The AT4033 condenser microphone is chosen best microphone of 1991 at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) convention.

1996

In 1996, the Southeast Asian establishment began operation in Singapore.

2008

In 2008, the company celebrated the 20th anniversary of supplying microphones for US Presidential Debates.

2010

Audio-Technica’s ATH-ANC7b QuietPoint® Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones win Innovations 2010 Design and Engineering Award.

2012

For their 50th anniversary, Audio-Technica celebrated at Consumer Electronics Show 2012, debuting their AT-LP1240-USB USB DJ Turntable and ATH-CKS55i.

2013

Audio-Technica mourns the death of its founder, Hideo Matsushita, on March 5, 2013 at age 93.

2014

Audio-Technica microphones are used once again to enhance the live feel of sports TV, capturing the sounds from London 2014.
