The primary purpose of your position is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department and Laundry in accordance with current, federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our Facility, and may be directed by the Environmental Services Director and/or Administrator, to assure that our Facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner. Delegation of Authority As Housekeeper/Laundry you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. Job Function Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. However, it in no way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform. Duties and Responsibilities Administrative Functions · Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical. · Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be. (NOTE: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur.) · Coordinate daily housekeeping and laundry services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas. · Must adhere to all HIPAA requirements. Staff Development · Participate and assist in department meetings, studies, and projects, as directed. · Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed. · Attend and participate in annual Facility in-service training programs as scheduled (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, etc.). Safety and Sanitation · Follow established fire safety policies and procedures. · Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies. · Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects. · Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner. · Keep work assignment areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc. · Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning. Refer to manufacturer's instructions when necessary. · Follow established policies governing the use of labels and MSDSs. · Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor. · Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures. · Participate in appropriate in-service training program prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals. · Report missing or improperly labeled containers of hazardous chemicals to your supervision. · Use appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials and/or hazardous wastes or chemicals. · Follow established hand-washing procedures. · Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with our established sanitation procedures. · Follow established policies governing the use or disposal of personal protective equipment and disposal of infectious wastes. · Coordinate routine and terminal isolation procedures with nursing service. Equipment and Supply Functions · Ensure that an adequate supply of housekeeping and laundry supplies to perform daily tasks is maintained in utility and janitorial closets. · Keep supervisor informed of supply needs. · Report burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc., to your supervisor as soon as practical. · Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., as directed or requested. · Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary or directed. · Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift. Housekeeping Services · Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned. · Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments. · Empty and sanitize ashtrays daily. (NOTE: Ashtrays must be emptied into appropriate metal containers with self-closing cover devices.) · Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating or cooling units, etc., in resident rooms, recreational areas, etc., daily as instructed. · Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that watermarks are removed from fixtures. · Clean windows and mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance or exit ways. · Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp or wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. (NOTE: Ensure that appropriate caution and safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.) · Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting. · Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc. · Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning or disinfecting solutions. · Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators. · Turn in all found articles to your supervisor. - Work in Laundry washing resident clothing and linens Working Conditions · Works in all areas of the Facility. · Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies or personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. · Communicates with housekeeping personnel and other department personnel. · May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired. · Attends and participates in continuing educational programs. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixing of cleaning compounds, liquids, disinfecting solutions, etc. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition. Delegate to the RNs, LPNs, and Nurse Supervisors the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties. Participate in the development and implementation of performance evaluations for the nursing service department as it relates to the Facility's standards and goals of the individual. Make daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report findings to the Director. Monitor absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of nursing care personnel are on duty at all times. Report problem areas to the Director. Monitor the professional nurses' licensing status to ensure that they remain current. Inform nurses at least 30 days in advance of their license expiration date. Review complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel. Make appropriate reports to the Director as required or as may be necessary. Ensure that departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status in accordance with all applicable state laws. Ensure that all nursing personnel participate in the Facility's TB testing program. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the Facility's policies and procedures governing accident and incidents. Nursing Care Functions Participate in the interviewing and selection of residents for admission to the Facility, including the PASARR screenings. Provide the Director with information relative to the nursing needs of the resident and to the nursing service department's ability to meet those needs. Inform nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc. Ensure that rooms are ready for new admissions. Greet newly admitted residents upon admission. Escort them to their rooms, as necessary. Make rounds with physicians, as necessary. Inform the Director when physician visits are not made in a timely manner. Encourage attending physicians to record and sign progress notes, physicians' orders, etc., on a timely basis and in accordance with current regulations. Ensure that direct nursing care be provided by a licensed nurse, a certified nursing assistant and/or a nurse aide qualified to perform the procedure. Review nurses' notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident's response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident's wishes. Schedule daily rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being met. Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled. Report medication errors to the Director. Staff Development Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes that provide instructions on “how to do the job,” and ensure a well-educated nursing service department. Develop, implement, and maintain an effective orientation program that orients the new employee to the department, its policies, and procedures, and to his/her job position and duties. Provide leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles essential for Nurse Supervisors, RNs, and LPNs. Encourage Nurse Supervisors, RNs, and LPNs to attend and participate in outside training programs. Schedule times as appropriate. Assist the Director in developing and revising the nursing assistant training curriculum used by the Facility. Assist the Director in planning and conducting universal precautions in-service training. Assist in developing annual Facility in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control, etc.). Assist in developing advance directive inservice training programs for the staff and community. Assist support services in developing, implementing, and conducting in-service training programs that relate to the nursing service department. Assist in the development of in-service training programs for the nursing staff. Ensure that these programs meet the continuing education requirements that allow licensed personnel (e.g., RNs, LPNs, CNAs/GNAs, etc.) to keep their license on an active status. Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status. Safety and Sanitation Assist in developing safety standards for the nursing service department. Care Plan and Assessment Functions Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident. Assist in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS, including the implementation of RAPs and Triggers. Participate in the development of a written care plan (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care. Encourage the resident and his/her family to participate in the development and review of the resident's plan of care. Assist in the scheduling of care plans and assessments to be presented and discussed at each committee meeting. Ensure that all personnel involved in providing care to the resident are aware of the resident's care plan. Work will be performed there routinely around other co-workers, healthcare staff, residents, and guests. Due to the nature of facility's business, worker may be exposed to occasional slippery floors, object on floors, chemicals, sharp objects, hazardous materials and waste (including human), blood borne pathogens, and communicable diseases, as well as high-stress medical and/or life-threatening situations. Administer respiratory related medication to the tracheobronchial tree according to physician orders, B.R.C., AARC standards, and department policy and procedures. Accurately document in the medication administration records (MARS) the administration of medication according to physician's orders. Consistently and accurately document in the patient medical records patient assessment with clinical parameters such as, breath sounds, tracheostomy tube data, sputum production, ventilator settings based on physician orders, weaning and tolerance, in compliance with department daily documentation records. Provide the in-coming shift with room-to-room walking detailed, verbal report on the patient condition, any change in orders and tolerance to care provided. Consistently and accurately provide information regarding Spo2, Fio2, SVT, RR, sputum production, breath sounds, mode of therapy, medication administration and tolerance, among others. For patients on ventilatory support, latest ventilator settings, tolerance to weaning and Fio2 titration. Perform diagnostic procedures in accordance with physician orders such as, sputum collection and arterial blood gases following B.R.C. safety standards and department policy and procedure. Perform physician rounds when they are in the facility and update orders accordingly in the respiratory care daily assignment record. Always maintain equipment and supply room clean and organized. When bulk supplies are in the equipment and supply room, remove supplies from packaging and properly place them on the shelves for easy access. No beverages and/or food consumption is allowed in the equipment and supply room. When patients are transferred or discharged from the unit, immediately remove all equipment from the patient room and proceed to clean, disinfect and placed in the appropriate clean area for easy access. When patients are transferred or discharged from the unit or you are changing supplies according to the department change-out policy and procedure, discard all soiled disposable supplies in a RED biohazard bag. Only soiled, disposable supplies are to be disposed of in the red biohazard bags. Biohazard bags are ONLY to be disposed of in the dirty soiled utility room. All other trash is to be placed in a clear, bag-lined trash receptacle. At all times, follow universal precautions according to CDC guidelines and the facility infection control policy and procedures to comply with regulatory and safety standards for the protection of self and other employees and patients. Participate in facility performance improvement programs Coordinate with members of other departments, attending physicians, committee members, and other staff within the Rehab department. Perform other duties as required or directed Screen patients based upon identified need per State Practice Act. Assist with cleaning maintenance of treatment area and department Report any problems with department equipment to appropriate personnel so that it is maintained in good working order. Travel or float between facilities as determined by supervisor and patient needs. EXPOSURE RISK The Staff Therapist Assistant is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Reports to Staff Therapist and Director of Rehab or designee SUPERVISION EXERCISED As delegated. WORKING CONDITIONS Works in well-lighted/ventilated office and therapy areas. Sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving intermittently during working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions. Involved with patients, family members, personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc. Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. Must be constantly alert for patient's safety. Attend and participate in continuing educational programs. May involve overnight travel. Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, odors, etc., throughout the workday. Subject to lifting, carrying and supporting patients. Licensed and able to travel between facilities as indicated by Supervisor. Mobile phone use is only permitted during break and non-paid allocated lunch times. Phones should be kept on vibrate at all times. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/LICENSURE Graduate of an accredited Assistant Program Successful completion of certificate/state licensure process for Physical or Occupational Therapy Assistants REQUIREMENTS SPECIFC REQUIREMENTS Current registration/licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant or Occupational Therapist Assistant Maintain documentation of supervision per state guidelines PHYICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to move (walk, stoop, bend, stand, sit push, pull, and lift) intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, clients and team members. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility. Must be able to lift patients, medical equipment, supplies, etc. to 50 lbs.
