Augusta Country Club history
Augusta Country Club company history timeline
Guy Gannett, Percy V. Hill and Walter S. Wyman founded the Augusta Golf Company on June 30, 1916.
The first major national golf championship ever held in Augusta began at the Augusta Country Club, where in the 1930 Southeastern Open amateur Bobby Jones defeated professional Horton Smith.
More bunkers have been built on the course and the number of contours on the greens was reduced when the type of grass on the greens was changed in 1981 from Bermuda grass to Bent grass which provided a faster playing surface.
Though minor in context to other updates, the club also moved the tees back on the 11th and 15th holes ahead of the 2022 Masters. (Click the holes below for more details.)
