Aultman Hospital company history timeline

1892

In 1892, the Aultman Hospital Training School for Nurses opened in the north end of the hospital.

1894

Emma Lupher, who made her uniform, was awarded her nursing diploma on May 2, 1894, and is recognized as the first Aultman graduate.

1925

The Harter Building was constructed in 1925, adding 100 beds to the 40-room hospital.

1944

The McKinley Building opened in 1944 and added 106 beds.

1947

The radiography program capitalizes on Aultman's expertise and extensive experience in training radiology technologists through the Aultman Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, established in 1947.

In 1947, another 117 beds were added by opening the Harter Annex.Stark County's First Hospital: Aultman opened Jan.

1949

20, 1949, workers broke ground and began construction on Dunlap Memorial Hospital.

1951

Dunlap Memorial Hospital officially opened July 3, 1951, with 44 beds.

1970

Hecker held the longest tenure of any physician in the city of Orrville at the time of his death in 1970.

1989

The Emergency/Trauma Center expanded in 1989.

2001

In 2001, Dunlap Memorial kicked off a capital campaign to raise $1.5 million to help reach a goal of $10 million in new construction.

Rick had previously served as the president and CEO of AultCare, a position he held since 2001.

2004

Completed in 2004, the newly constructed area was accordingly named the Willard E. Smucker Wing.

The School of Nursing expanded its curriculum and became an incorporated college in 2004, changing its name to Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

2005

In 2005, the college was authorized by the Ohio Board of Regents (OBR) to offer its first-degree program, an Associate of Science in Nursing.

2006

In 2006, Rod Steiger became the new president and CEO of Dunlap Memorial.

Also in 2006, Aultman earned Magnet® status for the first time – a nursing excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

2007

The Aultman Foundation launched in 2007, providing grant funding for area nonprofit organizations and administering funds donated to Aultman.

2009

Following an extensive self-study process and on-site assessment, in 2009, the college earned initial accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

2010

After serving as vice president of medical affairs for five years, Marchelle Suppan DPM, MBA was appointed president and CEO in November 2010.

2011

On July 26, 2011, the board of the Orrville Hospital Foundation signed a letter of intent for Dunlap Community Hospital to become a subsidiary of Aultman Health Foundation.

2011: The Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital Compassionate Care Center opened on the Aultman Woodlawn campus.

2012

2012: Aultman opened the Gregory Family Training Center, which is a high-tech learning center for students, Aultman staff members and physicians.

2013

2013: Aultman enhanced its existing partnership with North Canton Medical Foundation, building on more than two decades of collaboration to meet the health care needs of our community.

2014

Aultman formed the Midwest Health Collaborative in 2014, joining the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio Health, Premier Health, ProMedica and TriHealth on a mission to improve the value of health care services delivered in our communities.

2015

In the summer of 2015, Aultman opened a new dialysis center on the Altercare of Navarre campus.

A third associate of science degree in health sciences (ASHS) began in fall 2015.

The first class of BSN completion students graduated in spring 2015.

2017

On January 17, 2017, Aultman celebrated our 125th Anniversary.

Ryan Jones, MBA was appointed president and CEO in July 2017.

In summer 2017, Aultman opened our doors to more insurance providers than ever before offering more in-network coverage to members of our community.

Pending final approval from the Higher Learning Commission, the program was expected to start in fall 2017.

2020

In early 2020, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic prompted Aultman to enter crisis management mode across our organizations.

2021

The first class will start in spring of 2021 and blends six weeks of online and in-person lab instruction with an on-site practicum rotation.

Aultman College had a lot to celebrate in 2021.

2022

In early May, Aultman broke ground on the Timken Family Cancer Center, which is tentatively scheduled for a summer 2022 opening.

These clinics expanded to all areas in Stark County and continued on a regular basis well into 2022.
