Autism Society of America company history timeline

1965

Founded in 1965 by Doctor Bernard Rimland, Doctor Ruth Sullivan and many other parents of children with autism, the Autism Society is the leading source of trusted and reliable information about autism.

1968

In 1968, Ruth Sullivan, Ph.D., became the organization’s first elected president.

1970

In the early 1970’s they started their nationwide awareness campaign.

1984

This strengthened the release of the autism awareness ribbon in 1999. It was adopted by Congress in 1984.

1986

The Autism Society of America was established in 1986 by Bernard Rimland, Ivar Lovaas, Ruth Sullivan and a small group of parents of autistic children.

1988

Temple Grandin was the first member-elected person with autism to serve on the Autism Society Board of Directors, in 1988.

2006

Through its national network, the Autism Society has spearheaded numerous pieces of federal, state and local legislation, including the 2006 Combating Autism Act, the first federal autism-specific law.

She has been with the company since 2006 playing an integral part of human resources, financial management, business development, and business strategy.

2011

Kirsten has led the Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin as the Executive Director since 2011.

2014

She has been on the Board of Directors for the Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin since 2014.

2017

Stiteley has served as the CFO of County Bancorp, Inc. and Investors Community Bank since August of 2017 and has a wealth of experience in all aspects of operating a business (e.g. finance, marketing, strategic planning, operations, human resources, IT). Glen and his wife Katie have three sons.

2018

Amber received her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in May 2018.

Doctor Born has been honored to serve on the Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin Board of Directors since 2018.
