In 1916, Vern V. Moulton and four other associates organized Auto-Owners Insurance Company in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
1917 The Company moves its headquarters to Lansing, Michigan, where the home office has remained.
Auto-Owners began writing insurance in Indiana, its first state outside of Michigan, in 1935.
June 1951 The Company unveils its new home office in downtown Lansing.
1966 Auto-Owners Life Insurance Company is established.
December 1976 On the last day of the year, Auto-Owners moves its operations into its current home office from downtown Lansing.
The company has been a member of the Fortune 500 since 2003.
July 2016 Auto-Owners celebrates its 100th anniversary in business.
April 2017 Auto-Owners begins its affiliation with the Concord General Mutual Insurance group of companies and welcomes them to the Auto-Owners family.
