Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated underwriting trainee to join our team. This job performs and applies insurance coverage, rules and guidelines to execute the underwriting decision-making process according to Company underwriting philosophy. This job includes training and development through completion of the Company's underwriter training program for the assigned line of insurance and requires the person to:
Learn various insurance coverages and contracts along with company philosophy and procedures, in order to make underwriting decisions
Read, interpret, and react to documents such as policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their meaning and use
Assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgment
Analyze loss experience, financial conditions and physical characteristics of risks
Acquire a working knowledge of supporting sections of the underwriting department
Effectively communicate with independent agents and other associates through verbal and/or written means
Participate in and successfully complete the Company underwriter training program
Desired Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree or direct equivalent experience with property/casualty underwriting
Ability to organize data, multi-task and make decisions independently
Above average communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to write reports and compose correspondence
Ability to resolve complex issues

For Raleigh, NC-based candidates: This hybrid role requires working in our Raleigh office at least two days per week, with the flexibility to work from home the remaining three days.
For remote candidates within our footprint: You will work from your home office and collaborate with your team virtually, traveling to our Raleigh office for meetings and company events up to four times a year.
Your WORK as an Express Account Underwriter I will make a difference as you:
Review new business submissions and make final risk acceptability and pricing decisions within designated authority. For risks outside of authority the underwriter will analyze the risk and make appropriate recommendation to management.
Review endorsement requests and make final decision on acceptability, terms & conditions and communicate to Agency Service Representatives (ASR) and agents accordingly.
Review renewals and make final decision on acceptability, terms & conditions and communicate to ASR and agents accordingly.
Order and screen miscellaneous reports needed in rating and underwriting processes, such as MVR's, Experian Reports, Loss Control Reports, etc.
Provide customer service support to our agents, handling various inquires and requests with some level of complexity.
Actively participate and drive territory goals.
Assist in training of other EAUs.
Conduct IT testing as required.
Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:
BA/BS Degree with 2 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent Customer Service and Communication Skills - Internal and External.
Understands the fundamentals of insurance.
Strong PC (MS Office, Outlook) skills; knowledge of policy processing systems and imaging systems.
AU Completed along with starting CBIA and CISR or CRIS.

Job Summary
The Underwriter Trainee underwrites individual disability income insurance applications, within guidelines set for the issuance of policies on a standard or substandard basis. The Underwriter Trainee works very closely with the Underwriting management, supervisor and/or higher-level underwriters who initially reviews all Underwriter Trainee work.
Primary Responsibilities

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. **What Will You Do?**
+ Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
+ Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.

Join our Amwins Access team in Mount Pleasant, SC as an Associate Underwriter!
This is a full time, in office position in our Mt. Pleasant, SC office. We are looking for people with:
1 or more years of prior insurance experience and/or related degree from an accredited four-year university
Ability to earn a Property & Casualty License within 90 days, cost reimbursed and study support provided by Amwins
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft 365 proficiency with an emphasis in Excel spreadsheets
Effective communication skills, verbal and in written
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multitask
Ability to prioritize important and pressing tasks
Each Associate Underwriter provides vital team functions:
Review submission information required to issue new or renewal quotes
Rate and prepare new or renewal quotes as directed by Underwriter
Review and handle inspection recommendations and discrepancies
Monitor various reports for consistency
Potential for policy issuance and endorsement processing, including audits
Assist in accounting procedures such as invoicing
Data entry into multiple internet based systems
