The history of Auto Trader starts back in 1977 when entrepreneur John Madejski launched a small regional classified advertising magazine called Thames Valley Trader.
By 1995, Auto Trader titles covered the whole of the UK. The magazine also became available in Ireland for the first time.
Auto Trader developed their mobile offering further from March 2010, when they released applications for users to search for vehicles using a Windows Mobile, iOS or Android device.
In January 2014, Apax Partners bought the business from Guardian Media Group for £600m.
