PAY GRADE: Grade 20 TYPE: Full time Automotive Technicians working with Heavy Trucks are responsible for performing journeyman-level tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy-duty trucks, garbage packers, and other standard and specialized gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Incumbents are expected to inspect equipment in order to determine the need for maintenance and/or repair work. Automotive Technicians may also provide guidance and assistance to less experienced employees working in the same unit. An employee in this position plans expected to carry out their work duties in accordance with instructions, policies, and accepted practice. Automotive Technicians receive their assignments through work orders or directly from their supervisor. Employees work under the direction of a supervisor but are expected to use independent judgment as to the method of repair needed to complete the assigned task. Automotive Technicians' work is reviewed for technical conformance and consistency with practice and policy, and the work is checked by the supervisor while in progress, upon completion, through reports, and/or results obtained. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job involves significant and concerted physical exertion required for regular prolonged periods of carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, or walking. Involves lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Work involves the ability to read small numbers and letters on meters. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in employer-owned facilities such as workshop and involves the use of electrical, gas, or air powered tools and equipment such as metal cutters, welding equipment, and pneumatic wrench. Work may be conducted in cramped work spaces requiring extended periods in contorted body positions and exposure to contaminates such as dust, gasoline, and/or caustic chemicals, and to potential mechanical and moving vehicle hazards. Work involves exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold), working around uneven, cluttered, and slippery surfaces, high vibration and loud noise (e.g. industrial and repair equipment). Job Description The Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic that specializes in maintaining and repairing cranes. This position may perform routine maintenance, like lubricating parts, as well as fixing other problems when the crane malfunction. The Technician position work in a safety-first type of environment. HCSG is a 24/7 service company that requires technicians to be available on-call and provide after hour or even weekend services as required due to customer needs. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Must be able to be on-call and provide after hour services as required. Troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, and upgrading industrial hoists and cranes in the field at customer locations. Perform OSHA required hoist and crane inspections and generating inspection reports and repair orders. Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager during the day so that work can be scheduled and completed on a daily basis. We are currently looking for experienced electric motor mechanics to join our team 1st Shifts Monday - Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. 2nd Shift Monday - Thursday 2:30 pm to 1:00 am. Responsibilities include: Assembling and disassembling electric motors, inspecting parts, measuring machined fits with calipers and micrometers, documenting inspection and test data on shop forms, balancing rotors, test run motors, paint motors. Occasional overtime, occasional weekend work, occasional field service. Work Performed: Dismantle electric motors in accordance with Louis Allis processes and procedures. Assemble new and repaired electric motors in accordance with Louis Allis processes and procedures. Dynamically balance rotors. Utilize equipment to perform winding/insulation tests, take vibration readings, perform laser alignment Perform run testing on motors Utilize welding skills to assist with fabrication and tig welding needs Paint completed motors Assist with field service when needed (including traveling to customers locations when needed). The Mechanic is responsible to help maintain the equipment/ fleet and support repairs both at the warehouse and in the field at construction sites. The purpose of the position is to properly maintain and repair equipment in order to maximize its return on investment. This position will work to have all available equipment serviced and ready to be deployed into the construction field at time of need. The individual will also be available for any field service "breakdown" calls where expedited service is needed to support the construction projects and help them maintain their schedule. In this role you may be required to travel up to 40% of the time. Responsibilities: Inspect each piece of requested equipment for safe dependable operation prior to site delivery. Make necessary service or repair to ensure each machine is ready for safe operation. Coordinate any field service repairs, breakdowns or required maintenance with the site Superintendent which may include troubleshooting problems on the phone or site visit for inspection of downed equipment. Order and collect necessary parts to make the suggested repairs. Test the equipment repair and report the completion status to the Superintendent. Evaluate all necessary repairs to each piece of equipment and determine the degree of the repair as well as an estimate of costs for the repair. Determine if the repair is billable to the user or general maintenance. Create and maintain service schedules and records. Each repair includes parts costs and labor hours worked. If repair is deemed billable to the construction site , pass information to administration personnel to create the billable charges invoice. The Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic that specializes in maintaining and repairing cranes.
