Essential Functions: · Under the guidance of shop leadership or senior mechanics, assist with the inspection of brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
· Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance including tire, oil and brake changes.
· Active participation in training classes and development opportunities to increase skills and working knowledge.
· Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.
· Under supervision, perform DOT, PM, brake and safety inspections on all vehicles. Perform PM and safety inspections.
· Complete work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties as required daily.
· Complete work as scheduled by shop supervision or higher-grade technicians.
· Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations.
· Maintain a clean work area.
· Basic knowledge of Hydraulic systems.
Education, Training, Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements:
· Entry-level knowledge/experience of at least 1+ years.
· Willingness to learn more complex diagnostic and repair process.
· Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related state and federal regulations.
· Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.
· Experience using diagnostic software is preferred. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
· Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred, or the willingness and ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment.
· ASE certifications preferred.

Job Purpose:
Performs skilled automotive mechanic work, being proficient in the repair and preventative maintenance of vehicles. Continuously learns to repair OUC vehicles with high proficiency in progression towards achieving Master Technician status. Primary Functions:

Perform general repairs to electrical systems;

Performs inspection duties regarding ascertaining vehicle road worthiness and to address any real or perceived compromises in safe operating conditions.
Conducts daily fueling of school buses, and checks other vehicle fluids to ensure proper levels and conditions; adds oil, transmission fluid, coolant, or water accordingly.
Performs basic automotive vehicle and equipment repair; performs routine troubleshooting and identifying malfunctions or failures.
Determines feasibility for onsite repair and performs such accordingly, or refers major and/or complex service requirements to the Fleet Technician 4.
Performs preventive maintenance according to assigned schedules as needed, i.e., changing oil, tires, transmission fluid, tune ups, filter and belt replacement.
Repairs or replaces damaged or missing parts and components, i.e., mirrors, glass, windshields, windows, doors, wipers.
Performs various testing tasks in ensuring vehicle road worthiness and to ensure vehicles are prepared according to established route schedules, i.e., checking air systems and valves, tire pressures and conditions.
Performs service and repair on various automotive components and devices, i.e., mufflers, water hoses, starters, brakes, tires, plugs, radiators, cylinders, rotors, horns, etc.
Road test vehicles to ascertain repair effectiveness; performs final inspection upon completion of service/repair prior to release on vehicles, as assigned.
Processes and maintains work order records and other required documentation accurately, concerning diagnosis, repair/service performed, and parts and supplies used. No more than 5% returned/incomplete rate on vehicle repairs.
Must be able to attain/maintain at least 60% productivity rate (as determined by work orders) and no more than 25% above individual repair times (as determined by industry standard labor time guides).Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to two years of previous automotive repair experience specifically in the service and repair of gasoline or diesel powered automotive vehicles and equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have a valid CDL class “B” license, with passenger endorsement or must obtain within six (6) months of hiring date and maintain throughout tenure in position.
