Your responsibilities will include: * Performing a variety of semi-skilled labor in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and collection systems, sewer systems, lift stations, pumps, utility meters, and other components. * Working independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills. * Performing maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifying supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority. * Identifying and repairing leaks or breaks in the distribution and collection system; clearing obstructions; replacing and repairing pipes, hydrants and valves; locating and marking sewer and water lines. * Operating and maintaining a variety of specialized equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifying and reporting mechanical problems requiring additional repair. * Ensuring that safety rules and regulations are followed; utilizing proper safety precautions in all work performed; reporting safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations. * Ensuring that hazardous materials are cleaned up and stored according to City policy and procedures; responding to emergencies as needed and performing tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies. * May coordinate work of maintenance crew and assign specific tasks to crew members. * Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, rotating on call position that may include holidays or weekends. * Regular and timely attendance is required. Required Licenses or Certifications: * Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record. * Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. * Must obtain a Commercial Driver License, Class B, within six months of hire. * Must obtain Class D - Water / Wastewater Operator license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within one year of hire.
