The primary responsibilities of the Construction Inspector, Airfield are to inspect and review small to large construction methods in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications and to provide general inspections on construction labor and subcontractor work to assure a good and cooperative operation. This position will assist primarily in Northwest, Florida region. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (may include but are not limited to): Conducts construction inspections according to approved drawings and specifications. Ensures compliance with the project plans, specifications, and local building codes. Monitors and documents construction activities. Prepares field investigation and construction inspection reports. Observes, monitors, and reports on quality control and quality assurance material field testing required to determine contractor's compliance with contract specifications. Provides field measurements and assists in compiling quantity reports (CQVs) for payment of quantities and changes in the work. Reviews airfield improvement plans and permits, conducts field inspections and/or participates in field meetings. Prepares and maintains inspector daily reports (IDR's) of work-in-progress and provides status reports relative to completion of work in accordance with the project plans and specifications for the Owner and other funding and shareholders. Records and reports on any deviations from the contract documents. Provides high-level communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives in performance, and compliance to plans and specifications. Maintains and promotes a safe working environment. Able and available to support work requirements based on day or night shifts and /or flexible schedules, including weekends as required, to support the project requirements, sometimes with little or no advanced notice. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS High school graduate or equivalent, required. Higher education, preferred. Inspection certifications, preferred. Minimum of 3+ years' experience inspecting airport or roadway/transportation construction projects, required. Experience in the inspection of asphalt, concrete, earthwork, lighting, signals and structures. Experience with DOT and FAA construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications, desired. Working knowledge of applicable statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations governing airport operations, required. Must be able to read and interpret airfield plans and specifications and have a solid understanding of complex construction means and methods, desired. Must be able to handle basic geometric mathematical calculations involving linear distances, areas, and volumes. Must have good written and communication skills. Must have reasonable computer skills and be literate in MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel, and should be proficient in Procore or other Construction Management software. Knowledge of engineering and construction practices and principles. Knowledge of safety construction practices and principles. Ability to read and understand contract documents. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of clients, management, and employees. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision. LICENSURE Valid drivers' license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record. Ability to obtain security clearance for air operations badging and Customs Border Protection (CBP) access. ENVIRONMENT Work usually takes place in an outdoor setting subject to inclement weather conditions, loud noises, hot and cold temperatures, dust, or fumes. The Mechanical Engineering Project Manager in this role manages the full scope of work from preparation of proposal through construction. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (may include but are not limited to): Serve as Engineer of Record and Lead Technical Professional for assigned building projects with smaller, well-defined scopes, including responsibility for structural design, quality control, and sealing of work. Serve as engineering lead for more complex building projects under the direction of a senior Engineer of Record, with responsibility for technical execution and coordination. Direct the development of complete, coordinated, signed and sealed structural drawing sets, ensuring drawings clearly communicate design intent and constructible solutions. Plan and organize structural drawing content, including determining where section cuts, enlarged plans, elevations, and project-specific details are required. Identify conditions where typical details are not applicable and develop project-specific details as needed. Assign design and drafting tasks to designers and junior engineers and coordinate their work to support efficient and accurate drawing production. Perform QA/QC reviews of structural calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by designers and junior engineers. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to designers and junior engineers, supporting growth in judgment, decision-making, and drawing production skills. Lead structural design efforts for architectural building structures using steel, concrete, masonry, and wood systems. Prepare and review structural calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports. Support structural repair and rehabilitation efforts as needed, including assisting with evaluations, repair concepts, and design development under the direction of senior staff. Provide construction administration support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, and addressing contractor questions related to structural design intent. Participate in site visits to review field conditions, investigate deviations or deficiencies, and develop repair or modification details as required. Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structures. Minimum of 6 years of experience in building structures engineering design. Proficiency with local building codes and existing building standards. Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit. Proficiency with Bentley Ram Structural Suite or similar Finite Element Modeling software. Proficiency with Bluebeam, desired. Proficiency with MS Office Suite. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately. Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office environment under pressure of deadlines. Ability to orally and verbally communicate complex structural concepts and solutions in simple, concise, and accurate ways. LICENSURE Valid drivers' license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record. Professional Engineer licensure with ability to obtain Florida licensure within six (6) months, required. Ability to become licensed in multiple states, preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position. ENVIRONMENT Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting. Site visits may occasionally take place in an outdoor environment.
