A Brief Overview Performs selected medical assistant and clerical duties that assist in care for clinic patients following established standards, practices, and competency. Works collaboratively with other clinic staff to solve practice-related problems. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department. What you will do * Assists in care to patients as directed by provider based on competency. * Provides accurate, completed, legible and timely documentation of all patient procedures in the medical record. * Maintains timely flow of patients. * Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Responsible for assisting with patient and family education to include procedures, medication use, nutrition, disease processes, and maintenance of health and wellness, etc., based on competency. * Greets patients and conducts clinical interview collecting history and vital signs. * Labels and processes lab specimens according to lab procedures. * Maintains exam room for necessary supplies and materials. Performs daily and weekly environmental cleaning and equipment quality control and maintenance. Cleans and sterilizes medical equipment according to policy. Follows correct procedures for handling and disposing of bio-hazardous infectious waste. * Provided back-up help for front desk personnel. This may include answering telephone, scheduling and cancelling appointments, and scheduling consult patients. Essential Qualifications The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Certification (CMA) obtained through a nationally approved certification program for medical assistant, including but not limited to: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National HealthCareer Association (NHA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), etc. Registration (RMA) obtained through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) also acceptable. Additional state requirements include: North Dakota (ND) registration as an MAIII through the ND Board of Nursing. If the incumbent does not already hold their registration as an MAIII through the ND Board of Nursing at time of hire they will be granted 4 months to obtain registration. All medication administration performed by the incumbent prior to obtaining the MAIII must be supervised by a licensed nurse.
