Avion company history timeline

1928

In 1928 Northrop cofounded the Avion Corporation in nearby Burbank, where he perfected a light, strong “multicellular” wing, built up from a number of sheathed-over, boxlike subcompartments.

1929

In 1929 Avion was bought by United Aircraft and Transport Corporation and was renamed Northrop Aircraft Corporation.

1955

Upon return to their home in Michigan, Loren secured the agreement of two other partners and in 1955 the Romany Coach, Inc. was founded.

1956

In 1956, the second event was a disagreement between the original partners.

1970

Examples are: Romney name (sometimes erroneously spelled Romnaey). The story in the last example: Robert Ligon and Associates acquired the majority interest in the Avion Coach, Inc.. in 1970.

1986

On October 5, 1986, a US cargo plane, the twin sister of El Avion’s own Fairchild C-123, was shot down over Nicaragua.

1991

After the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia acquired most of the highly competent Soviet design bureaus.

2017

As of 2017, American companies constituted just under half of the global aerospace industry.
