Primary Job Functions: To provide support to the classroom and assist OASIS teachers in achieving student learning objectives per Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Specific duties will include working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve and maintain the skill levels of the class. Will also assist with classroom management and implement student specific behavior plans as appropriate as well as providing for special health care needs.
Salary Lane: Hourly pay starting at $19.00.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Assigned Workday Calendar: 181 days (School Year Days)
Job Status: Full-Time (35 Hours per Week)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 3:00pm (Wednesday is 7:15am - 2:45pm)
Benefits: Full-time positions are eligible for medical, dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Eligible for PERF Retirement.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Advanced work in special education preferred.
Skills and Knowledge: Must have ability to relate well and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals including students, staff, parents, and classroom volunteers.
Experience: None is required. Experience in a classroom setting preferred.
Certification: None is required.
Other: Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pu pils, staff, parents, and the community.
Essential Functions:
Maintains schedule as developed by supervising teacher and/or OASIS Coordinator.
Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
Utilizes de-escalation techniques when behaviors and emotions are escalated, at the direction of the teacher.
Prepares classroom or learning environment with needed supplies and materials.
Participates in in-service training program directed at supporting behavior, such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.
Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills.
Maintains records and collects data as directed by the teacher.
Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
Performs other such tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may assign.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of

2. Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in various
subject areas; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples,
emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
3. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing,
typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials; grade student tests and assignments
and record grades; maintain student records and files as assigned.
4. Assist teachers with implementing lesson plans; confer with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; explain and assure student
understanding of classroom assignment and homework instructions.
5. Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved
procedures; monitor students during outdoor and recess activities as required; monitor and
report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
6. Read books to students and observe their reading abilities as assigned by the position;
assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition as required; assist students with spelling and writing exercises and assignments.
7. Provide classroom support to the teacher by preparing and setting up work areas,
decorations, posters and displays, and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and
materials.
8. Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and
procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly and clean
manner.
9. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of
the building/unit.
