B&M Stores company history timeline
The business was founded in 1978 with the first store opening in Blackpool.
Cleveleys town centre is where the first ever B&M was opened and Owner Malcolm remained its company director until 1996.
It was in 2010 that the business moved into a new head office in Speke, Liverpool.
By 2014, B&M listed on the London Stock Exchange and it was described as a move that was designed to support the company's ambitious growth plans.
By 2020, it was admitted to the FTSE 100 index. It made the FTSE 250 index in 2015 and in the following year, two more distribution centres were opened in the North West.
Clayton, Dubilier and Rice, one of the world’s leading private equity firms acquired a significant stake in B&M and Sir Terry Leahy was appointed and served as Chairman of B&M until March 2018.
A new 1 million square foot Distribution Centre in Bedford became fully operational in January 2020, supporting the continued roll out of new B&M stores in the South of England.
