E. L. Wiegand incorporated Wiegand Electric Company in 1917 manufacturing electric heating elements under the "Chromalox" brand.
In 1917 he started the E.L. Wiegand Corporation operating under the name Chromalox.
Our founder Christian Backer patented the modern day tubular heating element back in 1921.
In 1938, Christian Backer established a separate, wholly owned company called Backer Electric Ltd. in Rotherham in Yorkshire, England.
After Carl Kramer’s death in 1961, Stan Nimrod was appointed MD. Nimrod had been active in the company since its establishment.
Emerson Electric Company purchased Chromalox in 1968.
Norske Backer in Kongsvinger was founded in 1969.
