Baker Electric company history timeline

1938

In 1938, LeRoy purchased Dietrich Electric of Escondido for $4,000.

In 1938, Leroy Baker founded a simple electrical business focused on rewiring household appliances and performing other home-based energy needs.

Since 1938, Baker has delivered electrical contracting services to the greater Southern California area with uncompromising quality, innovation and integrity.

1942

In 1942, Neville joined his father at Baker Electric where he continued to do work at Camp Pendleton and all of North County San Diego.

1947

LeRoy Baker led the company for the first decade before his son, Neville, took over the business in 1947.

1948

Furlong was ill so they worked out a buy-sell agreement and changed the name to Furlong and Baker in 1948.

1950

Since then, four generations of the Baker family have been involved in the business, which was renamed Baker Electric in 1950.

In 1950, Baker Electric built a new building at 7th and Center Streets.

1955

In 1955, Neville incorporated his small business, making Baker Electric into Baker Electric, Inc.

1957

In 1957,Baker Electric joined the then small group of electrical contractors in the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

1960

Baker Electric, Inc. was incorporated in 1960.

After serving in the US Army, Kent Baker joined the Baker team as an Apprentice in 1960.

1964

In 1964, Neville Baker along with four other Escondido businessmen formed Escondido National Bank.

1977

The latter company sold the Baker Division to German multinational company Linde-Akiengesellschaft in 1977.

1982

1982 - The first modern hybrid car is made at GE Research Lab.

He absorbed as much knowledge and information as he could from his father over the years until taking over as President of Baker in 1982.

1983

Like his father before him Kent Baker is also active in NECA and was inducted president of the NECA San Diego Chapter in 1983.

Following in his father's footsteps, Kent became President of NECA San Diego in 1983.

1989

1989 - Audi creates a hybrid called the "Duo" with NiCad batteries and a 5 cylinder gas engine.

1994

In 1994, after five years of working for a general contractor to gain outside experience, Kent’s son Ted Baker joined Baker Electric, Inc. as an estimator.

2000

In 2000, Ted succeeded his father Kent in the role of president and CEO and is responsible for all Baker Electric and Baker Electric Home Energy company operations.

2005

In 2005, the Company purchased a building at 2301 Fleur Drive and relocated the warehouse operation there.

2006

Ivy covered the building, concealing the aesthetic details of the architecture, when Cumberland Development LLC and Aril Ventures partnered together the buy the building in 2006.

As part of the executive team since 2006, Brian manages the financial and operational vision as CFO of both Baker Electric and Baker Electric Home Energy.

In 2006, Baker Electric, Inc. built a new office and warehouse located in Escondido.

2007

Meade's Early Commercial/Mission Revival mixed-style Baker building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007, which enabled historic tax credits for the restoration project.

NB Baker Electric, Inc. was formed in 2007 to facilitate our continued expansion into the residential solar installation sector.

2008

In 2008, with the Recession in full swing, Baker Electric, Inc. celebrated 70 years of business.

2018

Baker celebrated its eightieth anniversary in 2018 and continues its path of diversification by adding commercial solar, utility scale solar, battery storage with two outlying offices in Rancho Cucamonga, and the Cerritos/Los Angeles area.

Celebrating their 80th year in business in 2018, Baker Electric toasted to their longevity by expanding the four generation, family-owned company based in San Diego to the City of Los Angeles.

2019

Brian joined the Baker team in 2019 as Chief Information Officer to lead the IT strategy and execution for both Baker Electric and Baker Electric Home Energy.
