Established in 1913, Bakersfield College is one of the nation's oldest continually-operating community colleges.
Kern Schools Federal Credit Union is a full-service financial institution founded in 1938 by a small group of teachers from regional public schools.
In 1956, Bakersfield College moved to its current location "on the hill" in northeast Bakersfield on the "Panorama Bluffs" that overlook the prolific Kern River oil field.
After all, it was Dorothy Donahoe, the legislator from Bakersfield, who in 1958 proposed developing a progressive plan for California’s Higher Education Institutions.
