Job Overview:
Macy's Baler Operators perform all functions related to the processing of trash and recycling according to local standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspect, sort and bale all waste cardboard and plastic.
  • Maintain balers and compactor clear of trash that can build up and create a malfunction.
  • Maintain the dock area (area surrounding baler).
  • General Housekeeping.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • No experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals
  • Resourceful self-starter, works well independently as well as part of a team
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and handheld technology
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing/walking around store or department
  • May involve reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, depth perception and color vision
  • Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job duties, including handheld electronic equipment.

Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted on a monthly or semi-monthly basis, depending upon factors including but not limited to the size of the facility and the number of colleagues on roll. Colleagues will be randomly selected for testing by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed of selection for testing, absent extenuating circumstances. In all circumstances, testing must be completed within 24 hours of notification.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The primary function of the baler operator is to keep the flow of scrap moving through the plant. You will feed scrap into the shredder, maintain the baler and its auxiliary equipment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. EQUIPMENT
1. Baler 12 & 13
2. Vertical Baler
3. Core Splitter
4. Shredder
5. Floor Sweep

B. HOGGER/BALER TASKS
1. Feed the Shredder
2. Collect Scrap Buckets
3. Change wires
4. Cut Cores
5. Feed Vertical Baler
6. Preventative Maintenance Tasks
7. Remove any jams within the duct system
8. Other Assigned Tasks

C. HOUSEKEEPING:

Perform daily clean-up of area & equipment
Organize Carts
Sweep floors
Dump trash as needed
Perform extra clean up during downtime
Keep scrap picked up (Cores, wood, strapping, board etc….)

EXPERIENCE/REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Must have mechanical ability
• Must be able to work independently
• Must be highly safety conscious.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

Experience required:

Mechanical ability:
Must be familiar with the workings of machines and their components and have an aptitude for mechanical work.

Math ability:
Must be able to do simple math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Read:
Must be able to read well enough to fully comprehend all forms and paperwork associated with this job.

Write:
Must be able to write legibly enough to fill out all forms and paperwork associated with this job.

Climbing:
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.

Balancing:
Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.

Kneeling:
Bending legs at the knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Standing:
Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Pushing:
Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Pulling:
Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting:
