Summary
Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking a SeniorEstimator to join our team in Dallas, TX. This individual needs to be experienced in estimating K-12, higher education and/or municipal construction projects. This is a hybrid position (four days in the office, one from home). Relocation assistance is available.
As a member of the preconstruction/estimating team, this individual will be responsible for independently preparing sections of schematic, design development and construction document estimates including soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids and scopes of work, preparing quantity surveys and reviewing project plans and specifications for all CSI (Construction Specific Institute) categories of work. They may periodically supervise the work of other junior estimators, PE's intern/co-ops students as well. This member of the preconstruction/estimating team will prepare budgets, estimates and pre-bid packages for construction projects to be built for clients.
Essential Functions
* Performs accurate, thorough and timely quantity takeoffs using company format, detail and coding for some CSI division systems for all levels of project documents (schematic, design development, construction documents).
* Provides information to seniorestimators/senior preconstruction managers for the purpose of developing accurate and concise clarifications and assumptions with project management team's assistance.
* Develops accurate and concise clarifications and assumptions with project management team's assistance.
* Obtains clarification on plans and specifications from architects and engineers when necessary.
* Solicits and analyzes subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required.
* Attends project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required.
* Develops unit costs accurately.
* Develops value management skills and learns how to implement cost savings methods.
* Performs technical/plan review when required.
* Considers and understands problems, and identifies appropriate solutions.
* Develops knowledge in building designs, systems and construction materials through available resources.
* Accurately assesses and plans takeoff workload.
* Is extremely proficient in all computer software programs used in preconstruction with particular emphasis on estimating software (e.g. MC2, On-Screen Takeoff, Paydirt, Constructware, and іSqFt).
* Constantly strives to improve individual capabilities, performance and expand knowledge of construction technologies and techniques.
Minimum Requirements
* B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent work experience with 7 + years of preconstruction and/or operations experience on commercial construction projects or 10 - 12 years of progressive equivalent work experience in a related field. Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience may vary.
* Experience estimating higher education and/or municipal construction projects.
* Computer skills including the ability to use estimating software (like MC2), word processing, spread sheets, bid management, online plan rooms and database applications and company communication tools, such as email, the internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
* Experience with computer software programs used in pre-construction with particular emphasis on estimating software (e.g. MC2, On-Screen Takeoff, Paydirt, Constructware, and іSqFt).
* Knowledgeable in the majority or all of the following: civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, interior finishes, exterior building wall systems, mechanical and electrical systems and the costs of these systems.
* Must possess knowledge of exterior building wall systems and interior finish construction systems.
* Must demonstrate expanding knowledge of construction details about miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, radiation protection, and other trades.
Preferred Skills
* Commercial pre-construction experience.

Description Location: San Antonio, TX or Lakewood, CO or Chesapeake VA, or Hudson, MA ECC is seeking candidates (ideally, recent college graduates May 2025 or earlier) for an immediate opportunity as a construction Estimator I. This person should have strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and have a solid mathimatical and data mindset. The entry level Estimator will work in-office along with other estimators and is primarily responsible for assisting in the timely development of accurate project cost estimates for large construction projects. In this position you will:
With attention to detail, review project documents to gain a thorough understanding of scope of work to bid.
As directed, assist in preparing Request for Quote (RFQ) or Request for Proposal (RFP) to distribute to subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers for pricing and bid. Ensure that documentation is written in an organized fashion, effectively relaying required information.
Evaluate and analyze received bids for completeness and with consideration for exclusions and exceptions.
Complete quantity takeoffs and summary of results.
Conduct value engineering as appropriate and make viable recommendations to enhance the bid.
Prepare final estimate documentation noting costs associated with labor, materials, equipment, insurance, bonds, taxes, markups, and other relevant expenses in accordance to Company standards and practices.
Ensure that supporting documentation is retained and retrievable for future use.
In addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of this position.
Requirements
Skilled in managing large volumes of detailed information accurately
Effectively communicate written technical information in a manner which is easily understood
Proven success in analyzing and comparing technical data
Adept at responding to critical requests and demanding deadlines
Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, sketches, specifications, and manufacturers' installation & operation manuals
Ability to perform basic takeoffs
Capable of learning proprietary estimating software
Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and internet
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
One year of related work experience, prior internship or closely related education
Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance, Construction Management, or related field is desired, but not required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.

Hands-on experience using estimating software
Knowledge of scheduling, project management, and budget related concepts
ECC targeted base salary rate is $52k - $55k annually.
Actual salary offered may be affected by education, training, certifications, experience, skills, level of responsibility, and location.

Estimator Responsibilities:
Demonstrated, on multiple projects, expertise in all aspects of project estimating from project pre-planning thru commissioning/closeout.

Summary
Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking an Estimator II to join our team in Dallas, TX. This individual needs to be experienced in estimating commercial construction projects, with K-12, higher education and/or municipal projects being the preference. This is a hybrid position (four days in the office, one from home). Relocation assistance is available.
This is an in-office position in Dallas, TX. The selected candidate will work a hybrid schedule (four days in the office, one from home).
The Estimator II is a member of the preconstruction/estimating team who is responsible for independently preparing sections of schematic, design development and construction document estimates including soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids and scopes of work, preparing quantity surveys, and reviewing project plans and specifications for all CSI (Construction Specific Institute) categories of work. This individual may supervise the work of other estimators and/or intern/co-ops students. The Estimator II prepares budgets, estimates, and pre-bid packages for construction projects to be built for clients.
Essential Functions
* Performs accurate, thorough and timely quantity takeoffs using company format, detail and coding for some CSI division systems for all levels of project documents (schematic, design development, construction documents).
* Develops accurate and concise clarifications and assumptions with project management team's assistance.
* Obtains clarification on plans and specifications from architects and engineers when necessary.
* Solicits and analyzes subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required.
* Attends project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required.
* Develops unit costs accurately.
* Performs technical/plan review when required.
* Considers and understands problems, and identifies appropriate solutions.
* Develops knowledge in building designs, systems and construction materials through available resources.
* Accurately assesses and plans takeoff workload.
* Becomes proficient in all computer software programs used in preconstruction with particular emphasis on estimating software (On-Screen Takeoff, & Desiniti).
* Constantly strives to improve individual capabilities, performance and expand knowledge of construction technologies and techniques.
* Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations.
* Actively participates in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.

Minimum Requirements
* Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Engineering, with 3 or more years of preconstruction/estimating experience involving commercial construction.
* Knowledgeable in some of the following: civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, interior finishes, exterior building wall systems, mechanical and electrical systems and the costs of these systems.
* Strong computer skills including the ability to use estimating software (e.g. On Screen Takeoff, Desiniti), word process, spread sheets, bid management, online plan rooms (e.g. Building Connected, Smartbidnet), database applications, job management systems (e.g. Constructware, Kahua) and company communication tools, such as email, internet and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
