Ballantine Produce Co. Inc. company history timeline

1805

Ballantine rented an old brewing site which had dated back to 1805.

1827

Our roots trace back to 1827 starting with a Scottish greengrocer named George Ballantine…

Since 1827, Ballantine’s has been creating award-winning whiskies, and the Single Malt series is a bold expression of both Ballantine’s heritage and sense of innovation within the world of whisky.

The range, from Ballantine’s Finest to the exclusive 40 Year Old, is the most extensive in the world of Scotch and is maintained by Master Blender Sandy Hyslop, continuing the brand’s tradition of Master Blenders that dates back to 1827.

1850

Around 1850, Ballantine bought out his partner and purchased land near the Passaic River to brew his ale.

1857

His three sons joined the business and in 1857 the company was renamed P. Ballantine and Sons.

1879

By 1879, it had become sixth largest brewery in the US, almost twice as large as Anheuser-Busch.

1933

In 1933 the Ballantine company was acquired by two brothers, Carl and Otto Badenhausen.

1983

Sandy started in the whisky industry in 1983 and worked under both Robert Hicks and Jack Goudy.

2005

Since 2005, the Ballantine Ale brand has been owned and marketed by the Pabst Brewing Company, which in turn outsources the brewing to the Miller Brewing Company.

2013

In 2013, Ballantine’s continued its innovative approach by launching Ballantine’s Brasil, a spirit drink made from selectively cask steeping Scotch whisky with Brazilian lime peel.

2017

From 23 September to 1 October 2017, Scotch whisky drinkers will be among the first to taste the three distinct flavours of the Ballantine’s Single Malts, and learn about its ‘stay true’ heritage and innovative spirit through an interactive experience in the heart of Taipei.
