Bank of Canton company history timeline

1835

Bank of Canton was founded on March 4, 1835 and has been serving the financial needs of their customers for over 187 years.

1912

CCB (Asia) originated from The Bank of Canton which was established in Hong Kong in 1912 by Chinese businessmen, including Li Yuk-tong and Look Pong-shan.

1933

Business and banking life in Canton were greatly affected by these closures, so stockholders of the First National Bank and the Canton National Bank met on June 28, 1933 to discuss the situation.

The Comptroller of the Currency issued a charter for the newly organized bank on November 22, 1933 (11-22-33) and, subsequently, The National Bank of Canton opened for business on the morning of November 28, 1933.

1936

The Bank of Canton reopened in 1936.

1937

The Bank of Canton of California, which opened in 1937, was initially established to meet the needs of San Francisco's Chinese community, which could not get credit through mainstream banks.

1947

Celebration of the 35th Anniversary of The Bank of Canton (1947)

1971

The Bank of Canton officially announced its cooperation with Security Pacific National Bank in 1971.

1987

On January 12, 1987, the bank purchased the State Bank of Cuba, and shortly thereafter, on March 2, 1987, it purchased the Lewistown Bank.

1988

In 1988, The Bank of Canton was officially renamed Security Pacific Asian Bank.

1997

Then, on July 1, 1997, the bank purchased the Union National Bank in Macomb, bringing back local ownership to that area and expanding our reach from Fulton County into McDonough County.

1998

On January 20, 1998, to better reflect our market expansion and greater product offerings, the name of The National Bank of Canton was changed to MidAmerica National Bank.

2001

In 2001, Hongkong & Shanghai Insurance Company Limited merged with QBE Insurance (Hong Kong) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of QBE Group and was renamed QBE Hongkong & Shanghai Insurance Limited.

2002

The holding company of United Commercial Bank acquired Bank of Canton of California in 2002.

2007

The inauguration of CCB (Asia) (2007)

2017

105th Anniversary Cocktail Reception on February 21, 2017

Most recently, on May 1, 2017, the bank purchased the Henry State Bank to expand our reach into Marshall County.

2021

Our address remains the same and our new main bank facility opened for business on January 19, 2021.
