Role: Supports the Financial Recovery Department by monitoring and maintaining bankrupt accounts and the processing of all bankruptcy documents.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Processes all Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceeding documents.
- Communicates with attorneys and members, as appropriate, regarding bankrupt accounts, insurance coverage, collateral protections insurance and to coordinate any repossession determinations.
- Maintains assigned bankruptcy logs, statistical reporting and credit bureau updates.
- Testifies at legal proceeding as required.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned, including general collection calls in the 20 31 delinquency window.
Performance Measurements:
- To ensure timely contact of members and attorneys regarding bankrupt account activities and proceedings.
- To maintain accurate and complete records of all activity in area of responsibility.
- To research and analyze accounts for loss prevention opportunities. Initiate filings for "stay relief" with available pre-petition funds.
- Maintain current procedural documents and correspondence with direction from departmental leadership.
- To adhere to provisions as set forth in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and insure collection activity is always within credit union policy and all relevant regulations.
- To provide informed, professional assistance and support to all members and associates, to troubleshoot and resolve inquiries in a timely, friendly and accurate manner.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Six months to two years of similar or related experience. Understanding of bankruptcy concepts and restrictions, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Service Members Civil Relief Act.
Education: A high school education or GED.
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
Other Skills: Familiarity with bankruptcy related repossession. Proficient with PC's, 10 key, Excel, Word, Outlook and Internet access.

The standard hours for this position are :
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
