What will I be doing?


As Director of Banquets, you would be responsible for managing the daily execution of all banquet functions in the hotel's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

Manage daily Banquet functions to include, but not limited to, planning, organizing and executing breakfasts, coffee breaks, luncheons, dinners, cocktail receptions, galas, etc. Oversee the set up of function rooms to include, but not limited to, the placement of linens, silver, glassware and chinaware according to event specifications and a full inspection Monitor and develop team member performance to include, but not limited to, providing supervision, scheduling, conducting counselling and evaluations and delivering recognition and reward Recruit, interview and train team members Communicate function specifications, procedures and changes with affected departments including, but not limited to, the Food and Beverage, Event Services, Property Operations, Audio Visual and Housekeeping Oversee the break down of the function room and ensure proper storage of equipment Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation and alcohol awareness standards

Job Description

The Director of Banquets will support the Director of Food & Beverage in leading the banquets department by ensuring the proper set up and service of all banquet functions, supervising all banquet associates to ensure guest satisfaction, and maintain service standards. This is a leadership role responsible for the training of associates to deliver prompt, courteous service in a manner that complies with the Omni Food and Beverage standards.

Responsibilities

+ Maintain a balance between floor supervision, administration, employee training/mentoring and hosting/communicating with groups.

+ Determine set-ups in conjunction with Director of Catering

+ Must be able to read and understand BEOs and diagrams

+ See that guest satisfaction is achieved through effective supervision and delegation of functions, checks on food quality and courteous performance of entire banquet staff.

+ Brief servers on functions and procedure of service, ensuring that all associates have the tools necessary to perform their jobs successfully.

+ Establish high standards of quality service and maintains them through effective training and continuous upgrading.

+ Assist in maintaining records, closing reports and payroll costs.

+ Inspect function rooms and writes work orders for the Engineering Department to maintain rooms in excellent condition.

+ Remain conscious of business fluctuations, reacts either increasing or decreasing when volume of business fluctuates up or down.

+ Responsible for controlling loss, breakages, especially as it relates to glassware, silverware and linen within the department.

+ Maximize profits in the department through effective management techniques while keeping in mind guest satisfaction.

+ Ensure that all associates are in appropriate uniforms and attire for their scheduled shifts.

+ Prepare for and conduct departmental meetings.

+ Use Synergy Reports to effectively relay guest concerns to other departments

Qualifications

+ 8 plus years of previous Banquet experience is desirable in hotel setting

+ Exceptional people skills

+ Must be detail oriented, have excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform professionally under high levels of stress.

Supervise the daily operations of the Banquet area to achieve customer satisfaction, quality service and compliance with local and corporate standard operating procedures.

+ Supervise and direct the Banquet associates including captains, servers, lead housemen, and housemen.

+ Interview, recommend hiring, schedule, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, resolve problems, provide open communication, recommend and conduct performance and salary reviews, recommend discipline and termination, as appropriate.

+ Supervise the daily operations of the Banquet area (order and maintain supplies, review set-up and food and beverage preparation and service) to ensure compliance with LSOPs and SOPs, Banquet Event Orders, safety regulations and procedures and to ensure an optimal level of service, quality and hospitality.

+ Meet with the customers to review the Banquet Event Order and to review any changes, issues and/or problems to ensure delivery of a quality product.

+ Calculate and review the Banquet checks ensuring accuracy and present the check to the customer for signature to ensure payment.

+ Calculate and prepare the daily service charges and payroll ensuring accurate, prompt reporting to the Accounting Department.

+ Monitor and control the maintenance/sanitation of the Banquet areas and equipment to protect the assets and ensure quality service.

+ Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.

+ Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

+ 2+ years of post-high school education.

+ 3+ years of employment in a related position with this company or other organization(s).

+ Hotel experience preferred.

+ Requires a working knowledge of HEI banquet/catering food and beverage services, policies or operations.

+ Requires knowledge of computer equipment.

+ Requires compiling facts and figures in accordance with established procedures.

+ Knowledge of hotel operations, including marketing plans, security and safety programs, personnel and labor relations, preparation of business plans, repairs, maintenance, budget forecasting, quality assurance programs, hospitality law, and long-range planning.

+ Leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and to ensure accomplishment of goals.
